For awhile now Ive had a problem using external FX with the Microverb4 which works great but every once in awhile a harsh sound would produce 3 0r 4 flutters. The average listener didnt notice them but it was driving me nuts. I was looking for a manual and the Alesis Micro Series jumped out. For certain live or drujm apps they run the FX unit into a nanocompessor then thru a Micro Gate.. The gate has 3 controls threshold delay and rate. The delay sets the time that after the signal has dropped below the threshold and keeps the gate open.. The rate determines how fast the gate closes (release time control.... Hmmmmm.... Years ago I bought something on Ebay and a 1/3rd rack showed up with 3 Micro Gates.. They have been sitting in the junk box.. So I ran the microverb4 into the nanocompressor then into the gate and back to the mixer. Running the FX high I could tell a difference but couldnt tell any difference with the delay...I set the compressor for a limiting effect and at a level to have 1 red light blinking. The first thing I noticed was I could run the FX higher without the normal screwing up of the sound (to a limit of course) The delay or rate effect can not be noticed until an abrupt cessation of the sound Then it is noticeable what it does to bass and all freqs (strings reverbs) So one has to concentrate on listening to the sound endings rather than trying to adjust for a better overall sound....... It is another subtle improvement that puts my system a cut above others.. I thought I would share it here but wont be wholesale telling everybody |

Your average karaoke people coming to you gig is just your average drunk bellowing into a karaoke machine with no technique or culture.Sure, I also spend money on my rig, with good equipment, but Quote: So I ran the microverb4 into the nanocompressor then into the gate and back to the mixer. Running the FX high I could tell a difference but couldnt tell any difference with the delay is just a tad too much.
Remember, Karaoke is a way for average people to get on stage and sing cover songs. If they were good enough vocalists, they'd have a label. |

Oh I can still do that too but probably would hire a host because after years and years of that I got burned out... The last thing I want to do anymore is go in somewhere and sing on a crappy system and deal with a bunch of drunks.. |
