Excuse me for my ignorance  , But how does one record into their computer from their machine? I only have songs that were recorded outside that I am posting and wondered if there is inexpensive software or how do you connect your machine to the PC? Or if it's possible.

Thanks!

You should be able to do a basic audio out from your machine to the soundcard input.
Your basic machine should have RCA jacks coming out. You may have to convert your RCA jacks going to the computer to what they call a micro jack, depending on your soundcard. But without knowing what you have, I'm just making a guess.
If you could tell us what type of machine you have and what type of computer/soundcard you have, it would be helpful to others that may also have recommendations for you.

I have a memorex Mks5001 with Aux in and out jacks along with video out.

As far as Outside songs, I meant I recorded them at a Karaoke store onto a CD.

Sound card is a basic one from HP that came with computer. It has I mike input on it though.

Thanks again!

As far as this is concerned, you need AudioGrabber to extract the songs from the CD. You will then have them in electronic format, i.e. a wav or mp3 file.

With your Memorex MKS5001   Not the best system (I'd say) but here's what you can do.
Get yourself a small mixer (price wise i.e. Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer )
You will use the Aux-out from the Memorex, connect those to the mixer
Connect the Microphone to the mixer
Mixer output to PC souncard input
Use free Audacity software to record yourself and Viola! You're a star LOL

First of all this post belongs in the Technical Forum, and if you look in there you will see a lot of posts that cover this subject.

Basically (as I understand it), there are all sorts of ways to record to your computer. Here are some that I am aware of:

1) You can record from your karaoke machine to a dvd player through a home entertainment system and extract to computer.
2) You can record straight from karaoke machine to cd, and extract that to your computer.
3) You can record to tape and extract to computer via RCA jacks to singular sound card input.
4) You can attach your karaoke machine to the computer and record straight to microsoft recorder, or a program like Audacity.
5) You can play the cdg on your computer and record to a program like Audacity.
6) You can play the cdg on your computer and record in multitrack format into a program like Audacity.
7) You can get a pro audio card and a mixer, with good mic and record into a program like Audacity in multitrack.

I currently plug my karaoke machine into my home entertainment system and record to dvd, and then extract on the computer. You can check out my songs in SS to see if you like the quality. Problem with this type of recording is you don't have separate control of voice effects or level after the initial recording.

I have also plugged a mic straight into my computer, and recorded but I hear some background hum, so will be setting up pro audio card as input.

To record straight to computer I hook the mic to the soundcard, use a cdg player like Dart cdg player (software on the computer)  to record a track to Audacity, then I use another software app to import the cdg music backing to Audacity. At this point you have to align the music with the vocals, and possibly edit a bit. But like I say with this method I get some background hum, and quality IMO isn't as good as DVD method so far. Right now I am sticking with the Dvd method until I get the other method with pro audio card set up.

Post subject:  Re: How to??

Ok sorry. Thinking about my post again I realize as usual you ask me what time it is and I tell you how the clock works. Just don't ask me if it's going to rain because I am an amateur severe weather meteorologist and I will tell you about the weather - LOL.

Here's the short answer for the quickest and easiest way to record from a karaoke machine to a computer. Get a simple cable from Radio Shack that has the RCA jacks on one side and a stereo pc type jack on the other. Plug the black and red RCA into the left and right output rca jacks on your karaoke machine, and plug the video (yellow) to a tv or monitor. Note if you have a Tv tuner type card in your pc that accepts tv input you can plug the yellow cable into that. Plug the other end of that cable (single plug) into your computer sound card line in jack. Note you may have to adjust levels in volume control.

Download Audacity (search Google for it) and install - it's free.

Start Audacity, monitor, turn on karoake machine, with mic plugged into it. Start a track (record) in Audacity, hit play on the karaoke machine, and start singing.

This is the basic approach, and as you see (previous post) there are lots of options to try and improve sound or control over sound.

Note that using this approach you are probably listening to the sound via your pc speakers, or directly from your karaoke machine. If you have a headset (head phones) and you can plug that into your pc or karaoke machine and sing by listening that way you will probably get better sound and with less feedback, noise, and hum.

EDIT: Somehow I missed your update post about what you have. But now that I see that I'm wondering when you say you have a cd if you mean one that already has the music with the vocals recorded on it, or a cd or cdg with backing musical tracks. If cdg - then what I already told you works. If cd with voice, then as others mentioned you need to put the cd in your computer and copy the files to your hard drive. If they are not .mp3 format they need to be converted. I think Audacity will do that too - you may have to download a plug in. Once in MP3 format and small enough just go to Singers Showcase and upload. Without paying you are limited to a certain size ( I think 2Mb) and up to 5 songs. There are free compression programs to make larger songs fit under the 2Mb limitation.
