I currently run two 15" Samson EX500 powered subs. I was thinking that a single 18" powered sub with a higher spl rating would probably do a better job than these two combined. Could someone please recommend a very high-quality powered sub for under $1500? I have been looking at the Mackie SWA 1801 so far. Anyone have experience with this one?? http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i- ... 6_387.html I would like some options that yall have EXPERIENCE with, I can read specs just fine, so please no "based on the specs" answers. Once I get a few that come recommended, I plan on going to demo them myself. Thanks in advance!! |

Don't know about the Mackie 1801's but I have both the older 1500 and the newer 1501 and love them. Work great. Kelly |

The Mackie is a great sub. Also take a look at the JBL MP418SP http://www.jblpro.com/mpro/PDF/MP418SP.pdf It's also a nice sub, which it's amp you can use powered or non-powered sattelites as it has a built in amp for a pair of sattelites. |

I have a Mackie 1501 sub, had it for 4 years, it's ok. But if I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with a EV SbA 760 with more power and a cleaner sound. The 760 came out a few months after I had bought the 1501, I wish I had waited. Go to GC or Sam Ash to demo these subs, let YOUR ears be the deciding factor.

I use a JBL Eon G2 powered sub. All things considered, sound, price, size and weight, I'm very pleased with it. |

I have 2 mackie SWA1501's While they have worked well for me I would stay away from them. I recently had to have one replaced after only a year and the sound just isn't enough for the $$. I have tried the1801 and that is not enough either. I have made the switch to passive subs for my dj setup, and use the mackies for my karaoke setup. I plan to replace the mackies with 2 dual 15" cabnets. Powered by a QSC PLX 3602. But as far as the best ActiveSub under $1500 The Yorkville LS800P Not the LS700P, The 800 has a single 18" woofer powered by a 1500watt amp. It will rattle your brain with an spl of 134db. I feel the 2 10's just do not get the job done repoducfing the lower frequencies. The QSC HPW181W is a killer sub also. 700 watts compared to the Yorkvilles 1500. The spl are equal but You will find better low end frequencies produced by the yorkville because of the high powered amplifer. These are the best choices the Yorkville is about $1250 and The QSC will be $1150 after rebates and such. The Yorkville is the best choice between these 2. Extreme low frequencies will be produced you will have the bump rumble and the movement of air that you will feel. The QSC wil provide the bump but not near the rumble and oscilation. Powered Subs Ranking: 1 - Yorkville LS800P 2 - QSC HPW181W 3 - FBT Maxx10SA 15" 900 Watts (would be my #1 for 15" speakers) 4 - RCF Art 705-AS 15" 800 Watts 5 - Mackie SWA1801 18" 800 Watts 6 - Mackie SWA1501 15" 500Watts 7 - JBL MP418SP 18" 600 watts Discontinued and Still over priced 8 - Yorkville LS700P two 350watt subwoofers. |
