I just downloaded the free version of Limewire and have been downloading music today that I wanted to get. I talked to Planetbill and he said he used to use it but that he was worried about all the talk that some people would get prosecuted for stealing copywrited material so he stopped using it. Seems like great software. Anyone have any experiance with it? Any virus or spyware problems? |

Sorry sweetie it's a share program. It is illegal. As soon as you download a song it is illegal. Their advertising is very suspect. They do make it sound as if it is legal. I was told by them charging a user fee they some how cover their butts, but not yours. When they say it is legal they mean they won't get in trouble not you. Please anyone correct me if I am wrong. |

Use it at YOUR OWN RISK! There is a good amount of nast viruses and spyware there. And of course it is technically illegal. Some software companies are setting up traps to catch folks that download their programs. It's not just a scare tactic, trust me! LOL |

My kids had downloaded Limewire onto their machine. It caused all kinds of problems not just once but three times. All three times we had to totally redo their machines. I woud remove it from your machine as soon as possible. |

It’s illegal file sharing between users, but it is just as illegal to share files between you and your friends. Everybody shares files now and than. It doesn’t make it legal, it just happens. When you install Limewire, make sure you set it so that it doesn’t connect automatically when you start your PC, it takes up a lot of resources. Only connect when needed. As for bugs and spyware, you are prone to get those when you download anything. |

this is a pretty popular file sharing program... as such, the entities that are currently collecting data on the file sharers are watching... you've been warned. |

I use to have that....... And Kazaa...... Years ago I use to use the illegal form of WinMX. Until I got a trojan virus and it killed my hard drive, and I had to go buy another. Lots of people use them, and yes... I do other forms of sharing that would make people call me a "pirate"... but never again from one of those P2P places. Ya just never know what you're gonna get in that zip folder. I'd *walk softly and carry a big stick* for sure Jeff. LOL (oh, and FYI, I have a close friend who got busted downloading illegally and got in trouble for it... they DO watch those places) . |

LOL (oh, and FYI, I have a close friend who got busted downloading illegally and got in trouble for it... they DO watch those places) . I had kazaa for a while but used only the kazza lite, which was stripped of spyware. The version was put out by a German pair (I believe if I remember right) and they got sued for removing the spyware that kaaza had put out. The main problem that kaaza had was that you would download a song and then play it back and 30 seconds in it would go off like a bomb with the loudest most irritating noise imaginable. That was the record companies putting their personal stamp on kaaza downloads. There was a large percentage of those in there as well. I have not downloaded any software, just music. PlanetBill said he got a good $700 piece of editing software there but I probably wouldn't be tempted to download anything like that. I move the music from my sharing folder and have the sharing disabled as well, so it won't appear that I am giving away any music. I've only done this for one day and am already having a hard time thinking of any more music that I would want to find so it will probably be shortlived anyway. |

I knoe tons of people who still use.......I'm just saying (what someone else said)...use it at your own risk. After my mishap, I wouldn't use it again. But, lordy yeah, you could find almost ANYthing on there. I got tons of stuff. (well, music only.... but I did once get a copy of a certain multi track recording program from there) It's just too risky to me to have to worry about all the viruses people seem to get their kicks out of uploading. (and winter is coming on, so there'll be tons of viruses floating around) LOL . |

*bursts out singing to the tune of the Alan Parsons Project's "Limelight"* "Liiiiiiiiimewiiiiiiire, you were all I ever wanted since it all began..." (actually I never had heard of Limewire until I saw this thread--but you know how it is; sometimes someone says something that reminds me of a song and I start singing--c'mon--I know you guys probably do that too  ) BTW, doIreallycare, I like your signature comment about Slinkys--and I might add something else: They're really frustrating when your 8-year-old comes to you and wants you to fix them for the 1,000,000th time after they're tangled up! |
