Ok. Just wanted to tell you about equipment problem solving I had to do for a restaurant doing Karaoke. I usually go there every other Saturday nights because my friend hosts there. It's a restaurant with a bar where the system is set up. It's not a bad system, it's a Sony jukebox system with powered mixer and 6 speakers running from it. Actually, only 4 of them are on the powered mixer and 2 are on an external amp. However, they never turn on the amp on because the two speakers connected to it are in an area managers want to keep quiet.

Anyways, no one there really knows the system, including my friend. They contract out with someone from SoCal to manage it and they have no clue what is going on. They just got an "upgrade" of the system with brand new Pioneer speakers 9 months ago. About 2 months ago, one of the speakers blew it's woofer and another blew it's woofer few weeks ago. My friend asked me to come and take a look at the system to figure it out. I kind of had suspicion on what was up but we went there one afternoon to investigate.

The powered mixer had two sets of speaker output, capable of driving 4 speakers. I look at the back and sure enough someone was too lazy to do it right and only used the first set and split it into two sets each, taped with regular tape nontheless, thus effectively lowering the impedance to 4ohms from 8 for each speaker. That's why they were blowing the speaker often.

We set out to fix that. First, we replaced the blown speakers with the two at the other room not being used. We then rewired the system to each speaker was connected to each terminal so it maintained proper impedance. We also used the unused amp for creative use. They had a spare speaker in the back so we asked them to mount it in front of the speaker and point it towards the speaker, instant monitor speaker. We brindged it mono and used on channel.

Now, the system sound so much better than it did before. I look forward to going there more than before. Just goes to show you, even the "pros" who maintains these systems have no clue what they are doing. At least you would think they would use electrical tapes when they split the speaker wires.

Eban, you should charge them some kind of consultation fee. I did a few of those kind of job around here. And in those places I get a good discount for my drinks.

Good job eben Ive worked on jukeboxes and sound systems in bars with speakers hanging all over and you look above the false ceiling and there is 40 miles of unused speaker cable. Mixed in with phone lines coax and sometimes nms electrical wiring.  Youd rather sit down at the bar and forget it..  One time a guy talked into working on a big deep fryer It was coated with 10 yeaes of grease.  I didnt eat out for a month LMAO
