I saw that, and I was thinking about posting it....I'm glad you did. I don't think it's a hoax, but if you look at his crotch(can I say crotch... ), it's obvious that he's been castrated.....I'm cereal about this, not trying to be funny...

Lucky for all of you, I speak fluid Russian.
He tells the story of a young boy about 12 years of age. Many of the hardships about growing up as a poor boy in Russia. Father nowhere around, Mother chopping wood and ice to feed the 10 children. Many bitterly cold Russian nights huddled together for warmth.
He recalls one summer when he and his brothers found a bicycle that was in need of repair. They stole anything they could, to buy the parts needed to fix the bicycle.
On the maiden ride he was lucky enough to be first. He was riding at a high rate of spead and hit a big pot hole in the road. He flew up in the air and his feet flew off of the pedals. When he landed, his groin hit the frame of the bicycle. He is singing the note that came from his lips as he smashed in to the bar. :O
Been there and done that. LMAO

No Johnny, that PROBABLY is the case! In any event, it would explain some of it anyway!

I need to do a comparison of his falsetto next to Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire. I was listening to "I'll Write a Song for You" just yesterday, and I'm thinking that Bailey hits a range near what we are hearing here. While I don't think there are any real gimmicks here, my guess is the soundmen are tweaking the EQ, and settings a bit in order to make his powerful "falsetto scream" sound slightly higher, adding reverberation, etc. Philip Bailey is one of the Falsetto vocalists that can go well into the 1st soprano range with his falsetto, some males can. Assuming he was a castrato, I don't think his normal singing voice would actually be in the second tenor/ baritone range. I might be wrong, but I've noticed that often the strongest male falsettos, are the lower voices such as the Baritone singers.. For some reason ( at least it seemed to me during the glee club years ) there's something about the dynamics and constriction of the baritones vocal chords that often enables him to really nail falsetto areas..
Someone who's familiar with voice pathology such as Cindy can answer this better.. However, while some might consider what he's doing "falsetto".. I think technically, he's screaming.. Some males can scream. In this case, it sounds as though he's utilizing controlled screaming.

Morgans here
Morning Morgan... I need to catch some shut-eye..
Is it possible he's just screaming ? Has the ability to constrict his larynx that way ??
Incidently, Thijs Van-Leer from the Dutch group Focus, hit that area easily as well. Listen to Hocus Pocus by Focus
My guess is technically, it's controlled screaming !
Might be using a pitch shifter to insure accuracy too ???? Not sure.

I saw a clip on tv about a soprano male opera singer. He could make his voice go as high as the female lead soprano. I do believe
men can hit high notes strongly. I'm not sure if that is considered falsetto
or not though.

Quote: I saw a clip on tv about a soprano male opera singer. Well, I don't recall much of this, but in order to stay in the Vienna Boy's choir, as a means of attempting to stall the natural drop in range (that takes place when a male reaches puberty) some males did opt to become "Castratos". I know nothing of men who can maintain anything higher than the 1st tenor range, but of course that doesn't mean they don't exist. Was this an adult male soprano ??[/quote]

Bigdog,
You may speak Russian, but I can read the Chinese captioning....He might have been singing about a bicycle accident, but the Chinese captions described it differently....The captions stated the story was he got caught with another man's wife and the husband was a surgeon who was expert with his scalpel.
Seriously.....go watch it again and note how he pumps the mic.....The guy gives good mic!...He plays the mic like some play a guitar. He plays it very well....He understands that the mic is a musical instrument and controls it so.

This is his website
http://vitas.com.ru/klip_eng.htm
He just has an amazingly strong falsetto with an incredible range to it ! Listen to where he goes here ! Obviously a nuance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRR0LYe2qLE
This is one talented young guy !
VITAS
He's supposedly an excellent actor, a composer, an author.. etc. He wears quite a few hats. Incidently I was incorrect about using a term such as "screaming", this young guy just has one absolutely amazing nuance-specific for falsetto. It's ashame that as he ages, and his voice settles, his range will in time drop.. always happens with age, but at least he uses it while he has such a falsetto, and he still has an excellent voice aside from his ability to falsetto as he does
