watch out... I got hijacked!

If you received an IM from me with a link for a geocities site with "naked" whatever, do NOT click it. First of all, I believe it takes you to a porn site. Secondly, it's not me. Thirdly, it steals your password!

I received the link from what I thought was my friend Deb (not a member of this site), and she's kinda jokey about some stuff, so I thought "it's a geocities site... no prob)...

for me, by browser went "page not found". And I shrugged and closed the window, and promptly sent her a reply of "what the heck was THAT?"

But when I got up this morning, my yahoo messenger had a window that said that I'd been logged off due to being logged on another site. I checked my hun's pc, and she had a window on her's that had a script error. Then I had a bunch of offline messages from folks that were going "dude, didn't work" or "ha ha". One guy clued me in on what happened.

You have to log onto yahoo and give yourself a new password. I had trouble with my messenger, so ended up uninstalling it and all of the yahoo resources I was using, and am now RE-installing them.

So watch out!

I also ended up running an entire spyware and virus scan, and found a few "hijacking" redirects...

So if you got a link from me (mstalanon), PLEASE don't click it. If you did, log onto yahoo immediately and change your password.

Go get Avast free anti-virus. It is the best out there....It will guard against all IM, P2P, email, and browser virus nastys....I love it....Do not buy the licensed version as it it exactly the same as the free except it is for business use....Free version is for home use only but is the same in all respects.

Also install IE7...IE7 includes great anti-phishing filter that checks every site link when you click on it no matter if the link is in your email or a IM message.

Yes I too have had that exact same thing happen, although not with deb.  I clicked on the link...nothing...didn't think nothing of it.  The next day when I went to login my password was not recognized....wtf...I didn't change it and noone else knows it.  Then I notice that I have several new additional email addresses, sub accounts listed on my account.  Called support immediately...and 2 hours later...back in business...and doing the clean up to get rid of all the junk..from one stupid click.....Thanks for the note...MrD

Thanks for the heads up Matt.....

I recall when one like that went around before. My 3 email accounts were emailing each other, lolll. (and I smartly put 3 & 3 together and figgered out it was a hoax)  :drunk:

Matter of fact, it did it with my kids' emails too.... and that coulda been what finally gnawed through my dang hard drive and gave me that BSOD so that I had to go buy a new one.  :(

(dummy me had NO anti virus software running... but quickly bought it after that)

Since I started using Firefox, I never use IE anymore. I just wish I can forever remove it from my system.
