We've discussed a number of things on the forums, and I'm sure this topic has been included, but somewhere along the line I guessed I missed it. Does anyone here run their own lighting rig? If so what are you using? What I would like to have is a single tier with like a couple of par 36 lights, just something that I can use to spotlight the singers. Not looking for anything real fancy, and of course it has to be pretty portable since it's gotta fit in my truck with all the rest of my stuff. Just curious. James Maninblack |

Next lighting system I get will be led... With color mist controller you can program any color scheme... led lighting |

I'd second karyoker's suggestion of the led par cans. They run a lot cooler than the normal par cans, use less wattage and you can get thousands of different color combinations with just 4 on a T-bar. Led's are becoming very popular for lighting among entertainers (DJ's, KJ's, VJ's) that I know. A buddy of mine got some wireless ones when led's first came out, but he paid $$$ for them. Prices keep dropping as the technology gets better.

I don't use lights. Never saw karaoke around here that ever used lights. But that's just me, I don't exist.

The trusty old disco ball and a mushroom sound activated light machine along with 1 or two patten generators on a tripod/truss is pretty much all thats needed in most places. |

8 par 38's controlled with an 8 channel NSI light mixer, 2 hanging flame lights, 2 sit on the floor next to the monitors for the stage. On the dance floor, 2 sync'd intelligent lights, 1 flame oil light, 1 water oil light, disco ball with 4 pin spots. |

Pick up a martin Mac 250. Guitar center is clearing them out right now for around $1500 I would suggest a pair with a good DMX board and couple of LED pars you could have the best light show in town. i only run 8 par 38's but i recently purchased a mushroom, moonflower, and a strobe moonflower for DJing weddings and such. at my show i only used the par 38's. the place i KJ now has a low ceiling so i actually use track lighting with regular colored bulbs...75 watt i think. i definitely think stage lighting adds to the karaoke experience, but only in my opinion, stage lighting is all that's needed. liight shows tend to distract the singer i've found and they also distract the audience. but what do i know....i only run two shows at the podunk little town of pflugerville. |

For the stage, par cans are all that are needed. If the club has a dance floor, that's where the flashing lights go, keep those lights out of the singers eyes however. If there is no dance floor, I wouldn't use anything but the par cans. |

No you have to decide if you want digital or analog controls. If you are just going to do basic lighting to highlight a singer, perhaps something like this will work.... http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i- ... 9_64.html# 1 or 2 of thoes would work, and you could also let the chase controler take over if you were DJing....  , but god know we cant't DJ too if we are KJing.

Okay an update and a bit of FYI for some of you folks still thinking about adding lights. I just ordered the Chauvet 38/56 Travel Bag from Musicians Friend for 34.99 even with the regular shipping and additional shipping because of pkg. size, my total price was still only 50.95 Why pay all that shipping Mr. James you might ask: American Music Supply/AMS has the same exact bag for 79.99 and would not match MF's price, so even with AMS offering free shipping, I still got the bag basically 30 dollars cheaper by shopping around. And trust me, this is not a slam against AMS, I think they are a killer company to deal with, this is merely a price thing. You have to go with the better deal. Question: But Mr. James you don't even have a lighting system to put in the travel bag. That is true, but you've got to store it somehow, and the deal was too good to pass up. Secondly, having the bag is now the incentive to further search the net for the best price on a 4/38 par system. And just so the Admins. know, I'm not listing these prices to re-direct folks away from our sponsors here at Karaoke Scene Forum. If they offered the same items that I was looking for at the same competitive price, yes I would be making my purchases with them. Mine is a reality of economics, I have a limited budget that I can work with, so I have no choice but to go with the best price available. So I hope that they understand this. I did search through several of our sponsors for these items and they were just not available. Perhaps it might be in their best interest to view the forums from time to time, to get feedback from working Karaoke Host to find out in fact just what our needs are. As each of us look to ways to help enhance our shows in a very competitive market, I feel that our vendors should also be looking at ways to keep their customer base as well. james, i bought my pars on ebay for about $10 apiece if i remember correctly. and i got a controler for about $5.....by the way, if anyone has a brook-mays music store around them, they are going out of business and they have some killer prices on cables, lights and other stuff! |
