While I know the debate on the reliability of this unit still goes on among certain users, I wanted to pass on some info.

But first the reason..LOL (oh dear god, here we go with another MIB novel)

Last night during my show, my Acesonic unit just up and quit on me. It stopped mid song and when I went to the machine, it was giving me a 'no disc' error.
I ejected the disc, put it back in, same thing, 'no disc'
I unplugged it, re-plugged, same thing. I did the factory reset on it, same thing.
Thank goodness I was at my main gig and they still had their VocoPro unit. I tossed it in the rack real quick and bingo, the show went on. Needless to say, I was still pretty bummed about my Acesonic, which by the way, was less than a month old.

So I get up this morning, and first thing I do is email the AceSonic company. Of course with it being the weekend, there were no techs on staff. But one of the sales director did email me back with a direct line number that I could use Monday morning. He also said that if needed, they could overnight me a unit if push come to shove, because I told him that my next show was this coming Wednesday and I needed a working unit.
Anyways, I get the unit set up at the house, and I decide to go ahead and open her up, knowing good and well that I would void the warranty, but at this point, I didn't care. What I found was this: the wiring harness that runs to the laser assembly was in fact rubbing against the disc when it loaded. It was also a bit loose. All I did was press the harness in a little tighter, pressed down on the harness wiring, and bingo, I was back in business. Just a simple manufacture oversight, nothing more.

Anyways, before the act of desperation took over and I opened my machine, I called around to see who had a karaoke machine in stock. The only place close to me was Guitar Center in Knoxville, TN. They have the RSQ 500 unit marked down to 149 bucks.

So long story short, if you've used the RSQ units, and have had success with them, this may be the chance to pick up a backup unit for a pretty cheap price. I think they normally sold for around 250-300 depending on who you checked with.

At the same time, AceKaraoke, does have some refurbished DGX105 Acesonic units for 79 bucks.
okay so enough about all that, I'll shut up now, just an FYI.

I love hearing that kind of a repair success story!!  It sounded as if your laser had died.  Obviously a loose laser cable will do the same thing.  Excellent diagnosing there James!  I like happy endings!!   LOL

James!   You Da Man :oh yeah:
Sarge in the motor pool always used to tell us (usually with a hand upside our head) "Check the connections".  Glad that's all this SNAFU was.

It used to be standard practice to put a small spot of red fingr nail polish on critical adjustments... Then you could teel ay a glance if they had been changed.  As equipt got lighter and the cables harnesses with smaller plugs got flimsier we started putting a dab on the plug and jack of the ribbon cabales It will help to hold it in place and at a glance you can see  if it has changed or vibrated loose.

The thin ribbon cables which you see in everything now is very very brittle It can not be folded or stressed in any way...Sometimes Ill glue it down to the ckt board at certain spots...

Ooooo, I hope the reason they are going down in price is because
they have a better model coming out.

BTW- congrats on the fix - you are braver than me.

My thinking is, and while I can't prove it, I think that part of the price drop is due to lack of sales. If you make an excellent product, the word usually gets spread around after a bit of time. You make a questionable product and the word spreads like wildfire.
I mean overall the features that this particular unit has are great, but if funtionality is in question, then no matter what the price, folks will still be leary. When you think about it, this has been the only unit that I personally have heard of that's been a problem, otherwise I've heard nothing but good things about RSQ products. If the price does by chance drop again, I may buy one anyway. But on the other hand, I can get a refurbished Acesonice unit for $79. I have no problem with refurbished units, at least I know that someone has actually put hands on to resolve the issue.

Oh and while I have ya Babs, congrats to you on your fundraiser this past weekend.
Good job. I wish I could turn on the daily news and hear about things like this. It gives hope to people, and sometimes hope is all you need to turn things around.
Well that and a little bit of cash. :D But again, good job.
