i have a rsq mv-333 karaoke machine and i've bought 3 different mics and none are working right. i have a shure sm58, shure pg58 and an m audio mic. the problem i am having is you can barely hear any sound coming from the mics.

i have a couple of old cheap mics (one from my old "singing machine" karaoke player) and they work just fine however, the 3 higher quality mics you can barely hear even with the volume all the way up.

i can't figure out whats wrong i'm using the same cord on all the mics its 12 ft. btw.
i have tried running the player just through our tv and i've tried running it through our stereo surround sound system and both the older cheap mics work like they should while the others do not.

any advice?

The internal mic mixer on the karaoke player is worthless.

You need a external mixer for better results. Also it's not the best idea to plug your karaoke setup into TV speakers or a home stereo. You will want to consider a mall set of powered speakers.

after clicking a few of the links here it looks like $400-$500 for powered speakes and $100-$150 for a mixer..ouch if thats the case i may just keep on rocking the cheapies a little longer.

so is the mixer just to turn the mic volume up alot more than the mic volume on the player will go? that makes it sound like the cheaper mics i have are more sensitive(since they work fine with the players mixer). anyway thanks for the reply and if anyone has any opinons/advice on the subject i'd be happy to hear it. thanks in advance

HTWEEZY,

Here's all you need for a mixer for $40.00:

That is 2 mic inputs and plenty of inputs for your CDG player.

Then, for speakers for home use, you can jsut go with some studio reference speakers like this for $240. As long as you are not JACKING up the volume, these will work just fine!! They will be missing some of the low end, however...

OR, if you DO want to be able to play at larger volumes, just buy one larger powered speaker for now then get a second one later. Nothing wrong with running with just one speaker for home use!! Here's a 12" speaker for $225 that will give you good bass responce at home:

Both those ways work for under $300 total!!
