First of all, I own horses....I love them beyond reason....There ain't much I would not do without to care for my horses. There is no way I would ever abuse one of them-even hit one or use sprurs on one.....But this new law goes beyond reason.

http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/15463113.htm

The horse slaughter industry is not evil. It offered a very necessary and humane solution to problems only horse lovers and owners know about.

The world will NOT be a better place if certain horses are 'saved' from slaughter. Horses will NOT be spared pain and suffering by this law....Difficult, dangerous, crippled, unadoptable horses will not benifit from this...You can believe that any and every horse that has even the slightest chance of being adopted is already spared from slaughter by sale and adoption.

The bottom line is horses are livestock. They are very expensive to care for and offer extreme liability to anyone who owns them. As livestock, they are bred for certain traits and intended for certain uses....Those that fail are either sold as pets, pasture buddies, or donated to humane organizations who attempt to make them acceptable for sale or adoption....I myself have given away very expensive horses who proved impossible to train/tame....but I first made certain he would go to a good home and those people knew up front he would be nothing more than a mowing machine they had to care for.

Yes, it is true that sometimes fine horses are stolen and sold to the slaughter houses, but the fact remains that the slaughter houses prevent many a horse from suffering neglet and abuse.

If they want to regulate something, then regulate the breeding and sale of horses. Require that prospective horse owners show they can offer proper care and training of horses, but don't remove the means we have of disposing of the ones that cannot be saved.

Amen Keith.  An animal is an animal and animal husbandry means doing what's best for the animal and the breed.  Next we'll be seeing them shut down stockyards and we'll all be eating soy beans.

Then we'll have some psycho start talking about 'plant cruelty' and humane harvesting

another stupid liberal law put in place for the few without the thought of the majority because of stupid liberal media and scared politicians.

apparently the vote was pretty much 2 to 1 for the law.

time to change our lawmakers in november!!

That's silly, all you need is a bowl of antifreeze and a spot of molasses.....There should be several dead horses layin around in a few days.

My ferrier stopped by today to trim my horses feet....

He's maybe 70 and still shoeing horses.

Anyway, I mention the subject and he goes off on it-I'm worried he's gonna have a heart attack he got so upset. He tells me about one customer who had a foal born with no back feet, just stubs.....Pitiful creature fersure....The owners elected to carry it to the slaughter house so the meat would go to a useful cause rather than simply give it a shot and bury it.

Bottom line...horse owners and equine support professionals don't need the government to tell them how to love an animal. We already do a pretty good job of it.

The current legislature and anti-hunting, funny naturalist attitudes that perceive and consider playing god to protect mother nature stems from kids spending their childhood watching cartoons instead of going out and experiencing real life.

years ago there was an emergency to save the wild horse herds in the South West.. Good in therory if stretched.. In reality the wild horses were mainly mustang crossbred scrubs that were under sized and worthless as equines.  Bak then one could go out and brand a colt and claim it Then go back when it was a yearling and take it home and train it.

The ones wanting to pass all the laws wouldnt go out and walk a half a mile let alone work in the hot sun with their beliefs. They want sit on their a**  in an airconditioned room and tell everybody else how to live. They wouldnt know the smell of horse meat or beef or venson if it was being cut up on their table. They wouldnt know how to cut it up but they want to tell everybody else what they can cut on their blocks and how to.

Farms and those that know how how are fast becoming a thing of the past and these assh888es are going to be sitting in a big house that the mortgage was long ago revoked and starving to death...

Keith, was that law backed by the ASPCA?  It has all the earmarks of it.  They tryed to get our legislature to make the Iditarod dogsled race illegal because it was inhumane to ask sleddogs to run! :O

Look out because their next move will be to probably state that sitting on a horse's back is cruel and inhumane too  .

Oh they already have they tried to prove the national rodeo assocaition was using horses and bulls in a cruel manner.  They found out that the stock was pampered and had better care including medical than their pets at home. A cowboy or stockman will go hungry and feed his stock first.. I have trained a few horses (notice I dont use the word break) and never whipped or abused them in any fashion. Another case of total fantasy about animals.

Some kids asked an old indian elder How can we fix the world? She smiled and said Heal thyself for nature will care for herself.....
