Everyone - Please be safe this weekend. I don't want to hear on Monday that one of our members has managed to: Cut off a body part with a yard tool. Consumed too many alcoholic beverages and run into someone or something. Overpowered their equipment or used frayed electrical cords and smoked their venue. Done anything besides having a great time!!!! |

I hate when this happens ! In all seriousness alot of work I do involves circular saws, jig saws, reciprocating saws, even a band saw for smaller cuts. Sometimes using a chainsaw outside. It scares the #$*# out've me everytime I use one of these tools realizing that THIS DOES in fact happen. People lose a finger, or hurt themselves do to only a brief moment of something not anticipated. As a musician I'm petrified of these power tools taking a finger, mistakes DO happen however. Unfortuneately, I can't call on someone everytime I want to reinforce wall units, cut a stud for a room addition, etc. Or do something I'm quite capable of doing. Of course the parents are still chewing out my ear for caulking in an enclosed area with no ventillation this past weekend... At any rate, yep, alcohol can lead to some unpleasant things... Travel weekends especially the last and first weekend of summer, stuff can happen.. Never pour lighter fluid all over your cashmere sweater before trying to light the Weber ! Never wear terricloth to bonfires either ! |

Will heed your thoughtful advice (and with my luck, I will probably asphyxiate myself whilst eating a cream puff!) |

Actually, in my past I have known a person who almost cut his leg off with an axe, a school that burned down due a to frayed electrical cord, and a friend that had too many and drove off a cliff. Nuff said? |

I have known musicians that lost fingers to circular saw and band saw episodes. Tough to forget something like that. I don't recall if alcohol was involved or not. Long ago.. within 5 years of one-another. It think pot was certainly involved, it's all we did before shop in those days |

I have had my first food casualty for this weekend. I hope it will be the last...I was cooking some t-bones on the grill and one of them...well....um....shall I say was blackened and caught on fire. Was way too well done to even attempt to revive it...I didn't even try to feed it to the dog...The other three turned out perfect, I guess it was just a hot spot on the grill. |

Nah, Keith knows how I get during these big traveling holidays. Every since a drunk driver accelerated to about 80 mph on a dead end street one town over, became airborne, impaled a home with his car, and killed an elderly man who was on his toilet in that house (about 10 labor day weekends ago), I try to stay well hidden from traffic fatalities during these holidays. Between that, and this tropical depression that is over New England now, It's always better safe than sorry.. Plus Keith knows that when my shelves clear off, and all my prize possessions go into maximum security status, there's a good cause. |

I needed to play catch-up with work. Also had to tune the piano, true a few guitar necks, and tweak the toys, polish the brass... etc.. I decided I need to work on my playing too, I'm not ready to totally atrophy quite yet... Decided to spend some time on the musical stuff that I've managed to neglect for too long.. Had to step away from the computer for a few days to attend to what's cooking on this side of the monitor. Too much to do, it's so easy to play online and never attend to it. I tend to be compulsive like that. (in case noone's noticed ). I think it just took the realization of this earlier thread when I last posted, realizing a person can lose fingers, arms, even have a stroke... I need to catch up on my music while I have my limbs, mobility, I won't indefinately, and at that point I'll regret not having played more guitar and piano when I was well and able, that's what I'm supposed to be doing anyway. (well at least most of my limbs are useful LOL ) |

just in case anyone does lose a body part you have a day or two you can wait before having it reattached. A severed finger can survive for at least 12 hours in a warm environment and up to a couple of days if refrigerated....if you happen to sever another body part seal it in a plastic bag and put on ice.... just thot this info might be helpful...let me know if you need to know how to put an eyeball back in it's socket... |
