I'd go but I am too old...Sign me up for geriatric idol...Also they don't like the peopel from texas.  Last year they truned away several peopel that could have won and told them they couldn't have another winner from Texas

One of our regular SS singers, Christy, is auditioning in Memphis...wish her good luck! I just cringe at the thought of so many really fine young performers being turned away or short shrifted while the "goofballs" get all the coverage initially...that time should be given over to the ones that truly can sing but get turned down for whatever weird reason (despite what they will say to the contrary--looks are usually a big deal with those judges--especially with Simon)--at least give them their 2 minutes of fame anyway and hope someone out there who can help them in their career is watching. The fact that this year's winner only won because he has premature gray hair is another sore point with me! Don't get me going!

Personally I would have preferred Chris Daughtry or Mandisa in vocal ability but of course that's not what it's all about.  So I have a theory, you should look as goofy as possible for the pre-interview period (before you meet simon and the gang) and do your very WORST at least that way you are guaranteed to at least get to sing in front of the people who actually say yes you can stay or no just go.  LoL

Memphis!  Dang that's over 4300 miles away.  Too far for an old f*$t like me to travel just to make a fool of himself.

What a bunch of $)%*#((#(%(#(%#.  That's discrimination.  Someone ought to sue their butts.  No, I'm not from Texas, and I have no plans for auditioning for AI--heck, I don't even watch it--but that really rankled me when I read your post.

It rankled a lot of us here last year when it happened.  Keith02 and no vocals both knew people too from Texas that were told the same thing...

GOOD LUCK CHRISTY!!!!YOU'LL DO GREAT!!!

I was wondering, do they have a list of all the tryout locations on the American Idol website? I suppose I could just look myself! LOL

I actually auditioned two years ago.  It's an... interesting process.  They turn away some of the best talent in the first round and the audience never gets to see them.  About half of what is sent through are the "bad/funny" auditions.  I was lucky enough to make it to round two, but got cut in that round by the executive producers.  If you go into this with your eyes open and KNOWING that this is a competition that is not based solely on how you sing and you can deal with that and not get hurt, I say go for it.  You never know what could happen and you could get lucky.  If that's a dream of yours, you don't want to wonder.. "what if" later.  Even knowing what I do about the competition, if I wasn't too old (and I think the age limit is BOGUS on that show), I would certainly give it another go.

If you are thinking of going and want a more detailed view of what it's like to go through the process, you can read my blog here, where I gave an account of the ordeal..

What is the age limit?  I had heard it was pretty young like 26 or something like that.

I'm almost 99 percent certain the age limit is 29 (or 30) now....frankly, I think it should be kept to 25 (some of these older people are almost seasoned veterans should they make it through and somehow that just doesn't seem right to me).  As Elisha points out, and with firsthand experience, this is no "real" singing competition, it is what it is: a TV show and it's primary objective is to sell product  and make its producers and advertisers money. When I saw the AI On Tour in St. Paul last week I thought I was going to get physically sick hearing the constant pre-show "shock and awe" blather about the new "Chocolate (gross)  Pop Tarts" (the show's sponsor). As someone who works in the graphic and video end of advertising  let's just say, tastes are not always discriminating, to say the least, when it comes to what gets put "up front".

I think American Idol is amusing TV we have our own version and it sucks bigtime.
I like Simon he is entertaining. As to the winners ummmmmm Kelly Clarkson is pretty good. I thought Ruben got the obese vote...hey he may not look like an idol but lets be politically correct ... grrrrr political correctness is just bovine exrement. Fantasia was good but she was never going to be mainstream and as for the richard cranium that won your last one he looked like a bit part player on happy days or I love lucy

I don't like that they have an age limit. If you got it - you got it.
Let America decide if they care how old you are. I'm personally tired
of blonde haired blue eyed teeny bopper girls without seasoned voices.

Elisha (JB), I've got another window open w/your blog right now.  I assume that's your voice singing "Yesterday", right?  You sound great!  I will go peruse your bio some more in a few seconds--I just wanted to compliment you on your singing first.  Very well done!!!!!   :hi5:

buttocks injections? That sounds like you'd be the American Idol for sure!

(I don't even know what this means but I had to go for it!) You know, go for the gusto and all.
