I always wondered what criteria the CDG makers use to decide what songs should be made into CDGs for sale. I really would love some Reba Russell songs on CDG, but no one will do it. I have put in several requests. She is a well known blues artist. Do you think they go by top 40 charts? If this is the case I'll never see it happen. She is only seen on the blues charts. Do any of you have this problem too? |

They are in business to make money. Lots of money. They have to pay for the rights to use a song. If it's not going to be profitable for them, it won't get done. It's all about business. They need to make a return on their investment. Just like the Holloywood movie business. Every movie has a budget. However many millions of dollars. If the movie is successful they make many millions more than it costs to make. If it's a flop, they lost more money than it took to make. The more popular the song or artist, the more karaoke songs they use. |

Try devocalizing them sometimes they work, Sometimes the older the song the better they devocalize. Try it with goldwave. |

Catering exclusively to whatever is popular has always been the bane of my existence, from books to movies, even though I recognize the commercial aspects of it. For us that enjoy singing the catalog of songs of a certain vintage, it's darn near impossible to find backings for many of these older songs--phooey! |

I have some Dire Straits and Eagles ones of yours I believe |

Don't remeber the exact formula, but part of it dictated that a song of course had to be in the top 40; not sure how far up the charts it had to go and it had to stay within a set range for a set period of time. I know that's vague but that's the best my old brain will let me remember.

Kelly I have a good friend that devocalises songs. Thing is hes so good at it I dont get a look in any more, cos everyone wants a piece of him |

Anyone know if it's possible to de-vocalize a song that's in mono? I kind of doubt it -- but maybe there's something out there I don't know about. |

It would be great if that would happen because so many of those great big band arrangements are in mono. If you hear anything let me be the foist to know! |

Exactly Michael, there's tons of songs out there that only came out in mono and odds are there isn't a ready made karaoke version around. |

I rarely give away trade secrets but here is one.. You find a singer that can mimic the original artist as close as possible. Then with a mono track of the original and the vocal in another track you shelf eq the vocal to get closer to the original artist. Then you apply volume envelopes and fx to the vocal to further imitate it... You run the original into the pos input of a summing amp and the tailored vocal into the minus input and test the results. Repeat the above steps.. |

I have a vocal cancel on both my units, but never tried it. I could give it a shot, but what about copy right issues. I'm sure I would be the only person singing these songs. I wouldn't even put them in the book. BTW- Reba Russell is a current singing artist. I love doing blues songs, but it is very hard to find new stuff in karaoke. Like I said she is in the top of the blues charts now. |
