I have to use an old winamp version.. are there alternative programs that are better? I just need a player.. with a pacemaker of some kind and maybe in combination with a dj program..

I've been looking around on the net and here on the forums.. but I feel like I'm drowning with too much info.. but not exactly what I need..

So my question is this:

What program (kar.player zip and/or cdg-mp3files + dj possibiliy + tone- emulator)  do you guys suggest for home use?
I just want the best sound and tone converter.. preferably low cost or free..  I have the feeling Sax & Dotties already cost me more than it's worth.. Upgrading is also not possible I think without paying extra..

Hope someone can give me an answer..  Thanx!!

Goof!

I have been using S&D for about 2 years now, with winamp (ver 2 on an older computer and ver 5 on a newer machine).  No matter what program you use to play the music, if you have a crap sound card, it is going to sound like crap.  Perhaps your probelm is with the sound card, and not Winamp.  Or it could be that the files you are playing are of low quality/bitrate.

Like I said I have 2 machines that I use, and do at least 2-3 shows a week.  My songs are ripped at 192kbps or better.  I can tell a slight difference betweet 192 and 256, and am going to re-rip the 192kbps songs to 256, when and IF I ever get any time.

So check the bitrate of the songs, and make sure they are good quality, and it may be time for a better sound card.  Or it also could be the system you have hooked to the computer to produce the sound.  I just HIGHLY doubt that it is a problem with winamp.

Hey there.. thx for replying..

The problem is not the sound quality.. it's just that the S&D player doesn't seem to find the winamp player 5.x.. so I have to use the 2.x or something to make it work.. And I would like to upgrade my winamp..
I've been looking in the faq's but don't realy find a solution..

In the OPTIONS of S&D you can set which Winamp you want it to use.  It dosent do it automatically, you have to do it manualy.  Just poit it to ver 5, instead of ver 2.

WHere is says location of winamp, you need to change it to point to your newer version....

It probably says now....
c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe

If you have another version installed, just change the path so it points to that version....
c:\program file\winamp5\winmap.exe
(or whaterver the path is to the other version)

Or alternatly, you can just uninstall the old winamp, and reinstall the new winamp in the same folder/path.

if you install S&D into the winamp folder then you just need to right click on a zip and select play in Sax & dottys. The first time you use it however it will ask you to direct it to winamp that is normal.
