Guess my three submissions so far in SS I chose to allow them to be rated. Not really sure if I should choose that option or not. Doesn't seem like a lot of people opt for it. What is your take on the pros / cons of ranking? What's been your experience with it? Hmmm....

Nah, they always go too easy on people asking for ranking....so if anything, you will end up with a close to "10" at the very worst.

Ok, so if I don't have a 10 that could be a bad sign?  LOL

If you have an 8.0 you may want to blow your brains out.  (It's just a suggestion)
:D  10.0
:( 9.0
 8.0  (Goodbye Cruel World!)

Does rank really matter to you ?  If it does, I wouldn't submit for rank, because people will lie, fill you with excellent scores, and you might believe them, and that would be sad. However even if you are a "10", and somebody is jealous of you, or just doesn't like the fact you are getting all "10"s, this person will likely sabotage you.. Even if HE or she feels you are in fact a "10"... Why bother ?  It's not real...The rank they give you behind your back, and do not divulge to you, is what's real.  You must know how you rank.. This is part of my point  :)

I just hope the Rankees win the World Series. They have Derek Cheater (he gave me a 10!  He said my song was the bestest ever, so it must be true!).

LOL Jeff

So regarding my general feelings about submitting, I supposed I've cut some slack for those that wish to, just based upon what I learned from others in the thread Chuck created regarding my submitting.. HOWEVER,  I won't cut myself such slack..

I do feel the goal of a "performance" is to do something quite well.  That's what works currently for me based upon my perspective of human nature

Actually I don't have a 10 average so far and I am dead already. That's right. I couldn't take it. I killed Bill. This is merely the Ghost of Bill speaking...from my Planet that is. :ppfftt:

I wouldn't put as much emphasis on the "live" one take allowed performance being a 9 or 10, mainly because there are more reasons it can not be... That's very hard..Singer's Showcase IMHO is different, A person can redo a song as often as it takes, just like a school report, make it as presentable as possible, take pride in their work, and at that point submit it... This is why 9 or 10 in the showcase I feel is doable for the very good singer... In real, I'd say maybe 7... In the case of a few of us that really stink, that's fine... but at least make it into a comedic routine as well as a song submission  LOL

I always seem to submit for critque. I want people to let me know what
I could do better more than getting a score. Hey there's an idea. Get rid of the
1-10 rating and just ask for critque.

Boy you guys make a gal feel like crap for not getting 10s. It isn't that easy in my case. I think I've average a 9 something. Does that mean I suck? LMAO

Here is me sucking in SS  LMAO I don't care - I don't think I'm horrible, but would
love some critque- I almost forgot - I do a record once with no edit - kappy always tells me to add that - He's mayor ya know

Bab's. It doesn't mean that at all.  The difference between the 9 and 10 in here in very few cases has ANYTHING to do with singing ability. In fact if ANY of this had to do with actual singing ability you'd see VERY few 9's daily, very few 10's weekly. no 9's or 10's as a mean average after 50 submitted songs, and the best of you would average about an 8, of course if Frank Sinatra, or Andy Williams were in here, they'd likely average that tops too... If half the other industry pro's were in here doing "Single takes" in real, they'd likely be a much lower than 8 in real, assuming they did their own mixing.  Ranking is good for the ego's of those who really need cyber-FTD flowers delivered to their door daily to lift their spirits..  Besides that, this ranking system is Sunday School silver and gold star mentality..

"You gave HER a gold star, why can't I have one too....BOO HOO"

OK,  where were we...  OK,  you are good Bab's.. But I have a question for you,  DO YOU REALLY want an actual Critique in a publically displayed forum for all to see ?  or would you rather I PM you a Critique, and from there you could decide whether or not you opt to have it displayed "in the hall for all to see".  Assuming you'd wish to read it first,  Do you truly want a Critique in Singer's SHowcase, let alone a REAL rank ?

Really, from just observation, when people ask for a critique on SS, people are very reticent about doing so for fear of hurting the other party's feelings, etc.  At worst, just saying "that was awesome" when someone is asking for feedback can be harmful too, particularly when there may very well be a valid point or or more for improvement in the performance.  It is sometimes helpful then to "point out" areas you are concerned about, share them with the reviewers and hope they will pay attention to those spots and give their opinion--this somewhat "brings" them out a bit more to a more constructive comment.

MJK,  I agree 100% with you.  Give some Critique, or advice EVEN if it's only positive at first.. That CAN set things up for a person knowing you mean well, and dealing with NOT always receiving glowing Critique..  People can actually be trained to handle a Critique if done correctly,  Problem is, I don't like playing psychologist and worrying about "How do a break this to them ?"... The biggest insult is, (assuming a person truly wants a Critique), can handle improvement, receiving just something like the comment

"That was just great, awesum dood"

I see that as a slap in the face, if received in the "C" category..  The person saying that OFTEN doesn't want to expend time, and effort to delve into ANY part of the persons song good or bad.  Why not just say "Hello,  I can't deal with possible ramifications of telling you the truth, so I'm taking a path of least resistance"

Actually I don't care if it is for everyone to see or not. At one point
I would have said pm me, but now I feel different about it. I think a critque
is nice when you can discuss it with others.

I guess the problem lies with people not knowing the difference between critque and
attack.  LMAO

Let's give it a shot Kappy - critque me here, so we can talk about it. It doesn't have to be the song I posted.
