I get so tired of the guesses inn the tech forum
 Som i want an opinion from all you experts,,

If you suddenly get feedback do you

Adjust the eq on the stage monitor
Adjust the eq on the mains
Turn down the fx
Turn down the mains
Adjust the angle of the mains closest to the stage
Adjust the output on the mic compressors
Adjust the eq on the mic channel in the mixer
Turn the mic gain down

ok lets modify the question.. is it a high frquency or low frequency feedback


Ok all you experts lets get some answers...  No guesses experience only..

Could be as simple as moving a mic.  There is no pat answer.  First you have to find out what is causing the feedback and adjust accordingly.

I would never call myself an expert, but I do have experience with
feed back. I definately think the first thing is find out what is causing it.
I know you know the obvious stuff like making sure your speakers and
monitor are placed correctly. Usually with my system I have to adjust the monitor
settings, more on the main control than individual settings. If that isn't it I double check my eq on the mains and monitor. I've never gotten feedback from fx. I preset my gain and my eq to each venue to make sure it won't cause feedback ahead of time, so I'd go to that last.

The question about frequency - I can usually tell if it is low or high by the sound. If that is what you are asking.


Are you asking for yourself or in general. I know you know this stuff.

99.9% of my feedback comes from the microphones.  

1.  Someone is pointing it at the speakers.

2.  They are cupping the head if the mike.

3.  They are standing in front of the speaker.

4.  They are holding the mike so far away from their mouth that I can't hear them, so I keep increasing the volume.  At a certain point it feeds back.  

Then I start the following:

If they don't move, or move the mike to a different angle, I start turning down the volume of the mike in question.     I never touch the main volume after the first couple songs.

If that doesn't help, I'll start turning down the reverb amount.     The more reverb I have on the mike, the easier it feeds back.

If the mike volume is now lower than the music, I have to turn down the music to match their vocal volume.

For me, it's always a volume problem and a volume cure, because of the above.      I said before, I never mess with the EQ or compressor settings.    

Unless I have a screaming A88hole.    If they are red lining the mike, the first thing I do is use the gain knob on that channel, to turn out the light.    If they are absolutely out of control, I use the compressor adjustment.   It's the knob of last resort.
