Anoyone making special plans to view this yearly event?  Saurday Singer, his date, 455 Rocket and I are all hitting the lake around sundown for an evening of star-gazing, wine drinking, general conversation and relaxation.  unfortunately this year the moon is nearly full so only the brightest meteors will be seen.  still if you look to the east, you should be able  to see three to four meteors per minute.  i will try to get some pics, but it usually requires special equipment for quality photos.

The year before last,  I made the mistake of showing up at one of these showers without a helmet.  Within minutes, I got pummeled in the right temple six times, and I lost my left eye !   Shortly thereafter,  I joined here !

I'll admit,  I was laughing hysterically at the time as well, but in retrospect losing my eye, wasn't as hilarious as we all found it at the time.

For those of you who miss out on viewing this celestial event, for the low, low price of $99.99 I will personally send over the half-brother of Moe, of the 3 Stooges, and he will poke you in the eyes until you see stars....just call MUrrayhill 8-2222. Operators are standing by.

NOW THAT brings back memories !     Was that a joisey prefix ?

I recall MU7 as an advertised prefix in the 1960's during a commercial on television.. That goes back to black and white television

Our first phone number ws 441.... And 2 neighbors on the same line.

And the last  2 miles of phone line was barb wire fence If somebody opened the gate the phone went dead..  And birds would sit on the fence. This one bird said "Didja ever notice how certain peoples voices make ur feet feel funny?"

That one I remember from the commercials coming out of New York on TV when I was a kid (New Jersey had no station of its own at the time--we got New York and Philadelphia via cable).  Usually the phone number was given to call for those "Longines Symphonette" 101 Musical Masterpiece record sets that the old British character actor with the mustache was pitching.  Another popular phone exchange was GRAmmercy, but MUrray Hill was by far the most used.  The other program I remember fondly coming from WOR in New York was their "Million Dollar Movie"--they showed the same movie twice per day for a week.  It's how I got to see "King Kong" for the first time in my young life, 14 times!

YES !  My mom owned that set as well. You are absolutely correct, it was likely New York CBS, or one of the stations.  Wasn't Philly WPIX ? or was that just the FM radio station ?   I moved so many times since the Jersey days, I forget which was northern pa,  northern Jersey, Southern Ct, etc... You are correct, Jersey had no station of it's own.. I just recall the MU prefix from a time before I was 10 years old.  I'm surprised you recall that.. Of course I moved when young from Jersey, that doesn't necessarily mean the commercial for Longines stopped in the 1960's.  I just don't recall seeing it once we left W Caldwell

WPIX was "channel 5" out of New York.  In fact, it was the country's very first television station!  Philadelphia's biggest station was WCAU. I can remember their "anchorman", John Fazenda, back in the days when one person did the whole news show (he looked a bit like Bela Lugosi, which was always fascinating to me back then).

Some of the "kiddie show" hosts WPIX had were Officer Joe Bolton (showed the 3 Stooges) and Captain Jack (showed Popeye if I remember correctly).  Bolton's theme song was the familiar "The Whistler and his Dog")....
