I have an opportunity to purchase a nearly new DBX-1066 Compressor for 250.00$. Any Advice on this product or purchase would be appreciated. I'm going to use it for vocal compression only through a Mackie CFX Mixer. Would a New 166-XL Be a better purchase at the Same Price. Thanks for your input.

The DBX 166XL and 266XL are designed for compressing individual tracks or sounds and well as complete mix compression.

The DBX 1066 is designed for complete mix compression.

I could copy and past all of the information from the DBX website, but it would be best if you took a look at their site.

The question would be how do you intend using the compressor?

If you only want to compress your vocals the 166XL is more suited to your needs.

For your use I would take a good look at a newer DBX product. The DBX Vocal Strip is a mic preamp, gate, compresser, de-esser, and limiter as well as effect unit.

THis is one of dbx's better compressors.  This normally runs around $400 new.  It is cleaner sounding which is why it works well on overall mixes, however it is equally comfortable in a straight vocal compression/limiting.  If you can get it for that price - do it.  The 166XL is good, but not as.

THANKS! For your technical insights. I checked out their Website and a few Pro-Audio websites for comparative Pricing. I think I'll go with the slightly used DBX-1066 for $250.00 like LONMAN Recommended. THANK YOU
