Post subject:  "Warm Up" Songs
I'm assuming you guys go to karaoke night now and then , I thought it would be neat to know what you all sing for your "warm up" song. Like do you have one song you just check what key your voice happens to be in that night? One particular song you know if you can sing it you can sing anything?
Mine is an old country song by Sylvia called Nobody I'm good to go after that, even if you sing it before you go out or in the car on the way.

My voice is usually in the key of H-flat; I don't do karaoke in public but I normally will run through a series of vocal exercises mostly to loosen the jaw and get the timbre in shape before assaulting the microphone.  These are very simple and very easy to learn..and they seem to work!

I try to do any warmups in the car on the way over. People will laugh like crazy if they hear me doing theater vocal warmups.

I feel it deserves some attention.  so if you want it back, you can sue me LMAO, I figured I should brush up on my "threadjacking" technique, by at least doing it the correct way, and landing it elsewhere  LOL

I usually do Marina Del Rey by George Strait to warm up. Depends on where I am. In high school choir and stage choir I used to do several doe ray me's and me me me's like Michael is talking about. That would look sort of odd at karaoke though.

Anything easy that doesnt require too much talent or key change.

Back in the younger days a sip of beer a vilolent coughing attack and I was good to go..

I actually had an anaphallactic reaction to Whiskey (Jack Daniels) while I was getting up on stage with a friend of mine. That was almost one of my most embarrassing moments because had I not broken the reaction by some divine intervention I may have passed out or passed on right there. That would have been sort of embarrassing I guess.  So when you talk about a choking warmup, I guess we have something in common.  :drool:

dont have a warm up song per se.

But what I start the show with is usuallly either:

Summertime---SGB disc 1 #11 version (Jazz Be-Bop)
or
Do you Believe in Magic (Lovin Spoonful--if I have a bunch of CUTIES in the room)
or
Celebrate(Kool & the Gang--if there's a birthday party in the house)
or
September(Earth Wind & Fire--just to get some energy and vibe happening)

Never thought about it; I don't really have one in particular. Lessee...Downtown, Over the Rainbow maybe...as long as I don't start with Cabaret or Heartbreaker (Pat Benatar) I am okay.

I talk so much my voice is in a constantly warmed-up state anyhow heh, heh.

I always warm up with Piano Man by Billy Joel. It's in my range and it's just enough at the edge of my range to get my voice going.

I warm up in the car while on the way to my singing place. Any song will do but I try to sing those that I intend to sing that night.

Insert the CD and sing along sa loud as possible.

Most of the time, I have been sining durring set up, so no warm up song is needed at the start of the show. But when I do need one, it's always Garden Party. Other than that, it's what ever comes to mind at the moment..

OK, Garden Party is a good choice for me as well. I'll have to give it a try.

since i don't sing much other than at my own show, and then it's usually only when it's a slower night or at the request of a patron, i don't warm up my voice except when i sing along with whatever song is being sung.  i do "warm up" the mics at the beginning of the show, however to make sure each is working and that the EQ, gain levels, etc. are correct.  to do that i sing "amazed" by lonestar.  it's a got a good range plus it's got softer parts an parts that need to be hit harder.  another good song to warm your mics uo with is "shameless" by garth brooks.

I usually sing in the car on the way there if I'm driving myself. I have a songlist on my iPod of songs I like to sing. That usually does the trick. If I'm riding with a friend, though, I usually ask to start with something easy, like Black Velvet or Suds in the Bucket. My KJ once had me start with "Down in Mississippi", which isn't hard from a range aspect, but the breathing is crazy hard! For me, anyway...
