Collectively, I believe it's very competitive, extremely judgmental, almost hostile, and what people feel, and say, is more than not, not what you see... It's a little microcosm, of politics at it's worst IMHO. What I believe is that SS is a vast audience that is actually a relatively hostile audience. Anonymously many listen that DON'T like the person subbing, nobody needs to purchase a ticket, get into their car, and drive a distance to see a performance because they are interested in what's happening.. My own feelings are that it's a nasty playground with many smiling, and as many people saying someone :sucks: behind their back... Do you honestly believe alot of what you read there ? In brief, Assuming I take the time to submit something of mine, it's only because I'm proud enough of it to sub it in the first place.. In such a case I will mail it to friends from here.. Not submit it to a venue where the honest people have been shut up, and what you see are general "white lies", or often, "I'm scratching your back, because I wish for you to scratch mine in return"... I think the Ranking system, and comments boxes create ALOT of nasty undercurrent.. This is my opinion.. Solely my own opinion, it's not going to change... I think the dishonesty we see in SS, is only the tip of a glacier. There's tremendous potential for camouflaged bashing. Let's just say, it's not for me.. Put more succinctly, Assuming I submit something, that's not very good... Plain and simple- people know, and are saying :That wasn't very good:.. However what you see written are lies, or nothing at all... What others think, are NOT the kuddo's you see on singer's showcase... I prefer honesty, I'd feel better if somebody somewhere had the balls to give the deserved 6 or 7, in such a setting, I'd also like to see somebody be "man enough" to take it, and say to themselves "OK, realistically, I CAN stand to improve, thanks", However SS is a lie... When I see signs of such dishonesty, to me, something's wrong... It's at best a "fairweather" forum
Again JMHO.. I think it's a nasty place... I want no part of it. But I DO like the concept...

I have seen alot of that myself over there but, honestly I could care less about what people think of me or my singing ability I have as much right to sub as they do and will have as much fun and satisfaction doing it so thats what I plan on doing. You may be right and I may not sub after I get a "taste" of it but I would like to at least give it a shot. I enjoy listening to them ( good OR bad) I applaud everyone in there anyways. Where is the fun thats suppose to be in there? Guess I'll find out, huh?

Oh, I care ALOT about what people think regarding my musicianship assuming I perform something and submit it, I'll only do it assuming I'm proud of it.. Assuming "I could care less", why would I go thru several takes, (at least) and take the time and interest to even submit it ? What's the point ? It's effort, takes time... WHY take the time and perform for public if you "don't give a rats patooty" ? I fail to see the logic... Think about it ~ I care ALOT assuming I submit something I feel proud enough of to submit. Of course I care, if I didn't, why the hell submit it ? For what ? IF people didn't care, more people would accept a rank of "7".. MANY say, I don't care what other's think... and these are the same people saying "The nerve of him/her to only give me an 8"... I'll be honest, I don't buy that logic at all ~
People have ego's

I was just saying that when I sub it will be a "this is me, take me or leave me" thing. I would like it if I got honest comments but it doesnt matter to me either way as long as I know I tried my best I can live with the not so honest ones too.So... I guess you can say I care little about what people say not that I dont care at all.

Well, If I submit something of mine that's artistic expression, I'm vulnerable..
THerefore, SS (as stated) IS NOT for someone like me. I don't like what I see..
Obviously many do fine in SS.. I won't knowingly perform in front of what I know to be a dishonest audience.. If people are clapping, and turn to one-another saying "Kappy really sucks", $U@# them... I'd rather the audience is capable of nodding their head, and saying, "Why the heck did you feel you should be performing that.... seriously Kappy.... brush it up... work on the____ areas, but you're embarrasing me, you just made a complete (@$%!) out've yourself"
Some are making asses out've themselves.... So when they get out into the real world, and make an (@$%!) out've themselves... They still really suck... but their friends encouraged them because they couldn't be honest EVEN when they asked for a critique....

Seriously, I have alot of what I consider friends over in the Singer's Showcase. What I'm discussing is as a collective audience, I'm not dis'ing any one or more individuals... Yet they/we exist... Singer's showcase IS for the GOOD performer IMHO... but like all other places that are set up as competitions, it's cut-throat. IF people honestly can't see that, or don't want to believe it... that's GREAT.... I have my own feelings, I know how the internet works... I wasn't born yesterday... I know people, audiences, and I happen to be a sensitive person as well... Yet I ONLY submit what I'm willing to put on a chopping block, even when I post. Do I care HELL YES.... Why else would I be wasting such time !! Let's get real ~ at least with ourselves. Does this mean YOU care ? not necessarily, I never made such a claim. What I did say, is I don't understand how you COULDN'T care to a degree... Based on other's behaviour, it appears MANY care over in SS... Would most of them say "I care what other's think" ? Nope....
This being the case, rank them a 7... see what happens LOL

For example there is one that doesn't submit anything here regularly but must have a "cult" following because boy is she awful! I sat in amazement on Sunday afternoon watching this performer get comment after comment after comment, all glowing, all raving. And was:
1. Never could quite figure out the melody line.
2. Was just horribly off key for whole stretches of the melody.
3. Diction sounded like this person was wearing wax lips and had a mouth full of marbles.
4. Just plain godawful.
Had I still been drinking like I did 14 years ago, my finger "might have slipped".
It is quite disparaging when you think you really do have some potential to watch people who are just awful receiving this fluff like this. What is truly sadder is based on this person's responses, the person was fully buying into it--oh and I mean to the hilt! It was sickening. I'm not speaking for myself, but it is disgusting to watch this kind of adulation when the next submission down is the one that really should be getting attention. Then again, it's a double-edged sword because, even if that miraculously did happen, would THAT person trust the veracity of the remarks made?
Oy vey!

Exactly MANY DO want to believe that "You too are a 10".. It serves a "fantasy need", often fills a void... But it's still a lie ~ It saddens me that a few have even told me... "I believe that the ranking system is a very honest representation of my ability", People DO believe what they are saying...
That's sad... It's a fantasy getting fulfilled... But if you suck.... You suck.. THAT is real
Michael, I think I've mentioned this to you.. I'm almost tempted to sub just to make a sacrificial lamb out've my sorry a$$.... Return with multiple accounts to rank myself what I truely would be... a "2".... Sort've an ice-breaker...

Quote: . Never could quite figure out the melody line.
Comment:
I found it absolutely astounding how you have such vocal control to sing the whole piece in perfect dissonance, a minor 2nd above the intended melody line. MY are you innovative ~
Does some of this sound cruel.. Of course it does ! BUT... People feel it, and are saying it whether others like it or not... If you are good, you are good and others know it... If you aren't good, and KNOW IT.. and care to sub anyway JUST for fun, that's great, of course you should, and do have the right if you want to... But realize that not all that listen are your friends.. also realize that ANYTHING you sub in singers showcase can be listened to by ANYBODY in the world who has a computer and speakers and cares to listen, member or NON-member... You don't need to be a member to listen...

You know, then again, there are many people that cannot articulate just what they really did find amusing about your piece...this is where the "awesomes" and "nailed its" come in, at least I think, in part. As far as critiquing, you know, giving this some thought, yeah, maybe I would not mind an "honest" comment. Look at it from my perspective. I love the standards and listening to Rod Stewart pretty much maul them in his smash hit CD makes me wonder sometimes..."Hey, he sold a lot of these CDs, so who am I to talk about his abilities here." This is getting into the commercial aspect I know but has some aesthetic merit to it as well...
