The newbie I mentioned before, that I trained for 6 months, just landed 5 nights a week, steady. No web site, no advertising in the phone book or newspaper. I gave them the gig that the guy drove 20 miles to hire me for. I'm way too nice. Anyone want to hire me to teach you how to do karaoke? |

And he must be using a better mic than your $600. |

Speaking of train, I turned on the television (for about the first time since I had it on during the AI finals)..and Train is on the early show... What a day to be playing in NYC...(at least I think that's where it's broadcasting from)...Going to be over 105 today |

The bar owner also said that the soon to be replaced KJ with one speaker, had one cordless mike. He said he wanted to use it, she said it was only for her, not the crowd. She just has a thing about "one." Rule # 1. If the bar owner wants to sing on the only cordless mike???????????? Tell him to pound salt, on the way to your next gig. Rule # 2. If the owner asks you to get a song, he wants to sing??????? Tell him you don't pay me enough. LMAO Rule # 3. If he wants to sing a duet with you???????? Tell him no way, you suck. Rule # 4. If the owner tells you to turn down the music??????? Just yell "What I can't hear you, the music's too loud." I have one corded mike and I use it to make announcements. I sing on a cordless. The corded mike has no reverb, it's just easier to switch back and forth. |

My partner has one mic just for him that no one else uses. It is not a matter of being selfish, it is a matter of health. Since he has done this, his bouts of the flu and colds are virtually non-existant. It makes no sense sharing your mic with God knows who when you're doing six shows a week, 52 weeks of the year. I also do this when I host. |

It cost her a gig. Was it worth it? |

Some gigs are worth losing or not having. It is not the be all end all. If the owner cannot or will not respect, they are not worth your time and effort. Another gig we can always get a lot easier than they can get a quality show for a reasonable cost. |

First of all the two KJs I am referring to are wannabe KJs. One uses, one speaker. The other guy didn't want to buy a song, that the owner of the bar wants to sing, and he had a small selection of songs and crappy equipment. Two perfect examples of idiot KJs. They won't find a job easy. They will have to take a job for an amount of money, that you wouldn't start your vehicle for. So in the long run, it makes it harder for you and me to get paid for doing a quality job. They will have to resort to being undercutters. Because they refuse to make an investment in a quality business. The gig they had is going to pay top dollar now for their replacement. That means more money than they got paid. Quality karaoke is not cheap. You can not do quality karaoke cheap. It takes a good investment of time and money. A professional business attitude. NOT the minimum investment and a "It's good enough for karaoke attitude." At the risk of sounding harsh. I take great joy in seeing someone like that fall on their face. You don't hunt elephants with a BB gun. Your chances of failure are 99.9%. Just because you have a machine and some discs doesn't make you a KJ. Don't include yourself in what I do, because it isn't even close. All you do is give guys like me a bad name and make it harder for me to obtain quality work and quality pay. This is a general reply to comments in this thread. Not aimed at any one person and I approve this message. BIGDOG |

If you're good, you don't have to worry about crap KJs with crap equipment taking your shows. I know we don't. |
