Post subject: | Wireless mic recommendations? |
I hope someone can recommend a wireless mic for me? I had a Shure that just went out and I need a replacement. The only things I require in my replacement is a double mic setup and I would like it to cost under $299. Of course I need good sound and range. I mostly do DJing, so annoucements will be made most, but there is some singing and Karaoke involved. Anyone have any ideas? I was eyeing these Gemini UF-2064M ($229) VocoPro UHF-3800 ($294) Hisonic HSU232 UHF ($299) RSQ RW-4002U UHF ($229) Doea anybody have any personal experience with any of those or maybe can recommened another? Thank you in advance. Mark |

I have a Audiotechnica 3000 I love. I would suggest e-bay for a great deal and you can stay in your price range. A really good wireless mic is expensive. I would stay away from anything from Vocopro. I have heard good things about RSQ wireless, but am not sure about the one you listed. I would go with something that had several channels, true Diversity (operation selects the better signal from two independent receiver sections, reducing dropouts), and resistant UHF band operation. |

I would check the search option to get more info. If that doesn't work go to the Tech. forum - They have answered this question a bizzilion times. When you figure out witch type of wireless system you want I strongly suggest e-bay for deals. Just make sure you stay with a reputable dealer. |

I bought PYLE PRO PDWM8000 on ebay for like $150. They are UHF and pretty cenent deal considering. One thing is the mic picks up more of high frequency and a bit susceptible to feedback more than wired, nothing a decent eq can't fix. The wireless sure does suck up batteries though. I like it for what I paid for, FYI. |

Thank you for the great responses. I ended up picking up this... Gemini UF-2064M 64 Channel Wireless Dual Handheld Mic System Even though I have had some bad luck with Gemini in the past (dual mp3 player junk), the wireless mic had some great features for the price. UF-2064M (Dual Handhelds) Professional 64 Channel UHF PLL Dual Wireless System UF-2064 dual receiver comes with two handheld transmitters Balanced & unbalanced outputs 64 band UHF synthesizer controlled frequencies Phase locked loop (PLL) circuitry Super high sensitivity with extremely low noise transmission & reception Stable & quality SMT assembled PCB module Power & 2 RF LEDs Squelch control Range: up to 250' per channel Frequency Range - USA: 790 - 806MHz I picked it up for $224 out the door. I'll let you know how well (or not) they work after my next job on 8/19. Thanks everyone for the input. Mark |

i ihave a cheap a$$ ausio technica 200 series that serves well, but the receiver is plastic so not very rugged. the sound quality is very good for the price (under $100). i use a shure sm58 that i've had very good results with (ebay $125). the mic housing is plastic, but since i'm the only one allowed to use it, it could be made of glass and it wouldn't matter because i ain't gonna drop it. i've used the hisonic mics before and i don't particularly care for their sound quality, but that may just be me. |

Ya. I was one click away from getting the AS990. But I did a bit of checking on it after I noticed it was VHF which is getting some bad reviews. Although in all fairness, I have heard this mic to be pretty good (that's why I almost got it). But I have heard to stay away from VHF in general because of reception problems. Not sure if that's true or not, but I have heard in many places to get UHF over VHF. Thanks. Mark |

Thanks. Mark UHF is generally a little less prone to interference as those frequencies aren't jam packed like the VHF frequencies, however I use a VHF Shure/SM58 setup & never had a problem with interference. It all depends on location, type of bar lights, any kind of radio towers nearby - etc... |

I have a UHF Gemini (don't know the specific model number off the top of my head and I'm at the real job) and I have been very happy. Takes abuse, good clean sound and no interference issues - as Lonman noted the UHF bands aren't as cluttered as VHF. I've never had the cell phone (doot doot doot doot buzz) issue with it either. |

Good info to know. Thanks. The model I got also has a rechargeable feature built into the mics so you can run an adapter into the bottoms of them to recharge, which is also a nice feature! |

I havnt checked Sony prices for years and years Take your pick Actually in the 16-30 series the UTX-H1 with its respective plugin transmitter below would be a very durable mic. The half rack receiver would run about $1200.....They are unidirectional whereas others are omni (for interviews) and cost more. For severe interference problems there is this one although I dont know if a unidirectional mic element is availible. Actually 5 available mic capsules: Two Dynamic cardioids, Condenser cardioid, Dynamic omni, Condenser shotgun |

Funny thing is, a $600 Shure UHF system that uses an SM58 handheld mic, uses the EXACT same capsule as the $100 wired SM58 handheld. Only thing that brings the price up is the transmitter/receiver combo. No better quality soundwise. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SLX2SM58/ and an Audio-Technica 1032, here you can find another of these as well, hurry, the auction is about to end. http://cgi.ebay.com/Audio-Technica-ATW-1032-Wireless-Microphone-System_W0QQitemZ140011681465QQcmdZViewItem Hey it's in PA too! Aw, well, the auction is over, final bid $69.99....guess they couldn't get $600 for it. Quote: Bigdog
