Post subject:  Powered Sub Question
Does a powered sub need to have a crossover.   Or does the signal from the mixer need to go through a crossover, before getting to the speakers/amp?    A newbie asked me this question & I wasn't sure.  Or none of the above.

Don't most have a variable crossover at around 50-150 Hz ?

Most powered subs have a crossover & a hi-pass output of some sort.

The guy said he bought a Yorkville powered sub.   But he can't jack from the sub to the top.   Does the sub have a crossover if it can't be jacked?   Or does he need a crossover for the sub and one for the top?    Does it go between the mixer and the powered sub and the mixer and the top?

Like I said, MOST powered subs have a built in crossover with a hi-pass  out for the satellites, not all of them do.  Depends on the make & model.

If it has a crossover, then yes it would go from the mixer to the sub then to the satellites.

It gets better... He showed up to do his first gig... now he told me he KJed before..  He shows up to play and can't get any sound.  He just bought this new system from someone.    Now he calls someone and relays his tale of woe.   Turns out he doesn't have an amp.    No powered mixer or an amp.   :whistle:   He's in the bar with people waiting to sing.   I think I'm going to wash my hands with this one. :yes:  :wave:

That's funny stuff....wish I could have been at that bar that night!! Again, just goes to show that being a GOOD KJ is not as easy as all these novices seem to think it is!!

Power amp is difficult to buy in most country in Africa :dancin:

my opowered yorkville sub has built in crossover. you plug both tops into one sub. bye pghpat.

And great God or is it dog, do you use.  I'd love to here them but since you're in hiding for some strange reason I guess I won't.  See successful people have no problems inviting one and all to their shows.

He uses the all mighty Yamaha Club series with matching subs, 1 amp & no crossover for the system.

Mackie SWA1501's and SWA1801's kick major (@$%&#!). I own 2 of both.

SWA1501 700 watts to a single 15

SWA1801 1100 watts to a single 18

Hardley underpowered.

Ah come now, the Peavey SP series are decent, no not the best, but the can rock pretty good when properly amped & crossed over.
