I am hosting a show right now as I type this. I'm doing a horrible job so I thought I would look to the forums for some inspiration. :D

The last time I went to karaoke, the host started 3/4 of an hour late cause she was eating and talking on her cell phone... at least you seem to be actually TRYING to do a good job. I think you should do Symphony of Destruction (providing they ain't all 80 years old :P)

I just might and I'll tell you why.

My cousin came to visit and already fell asleep before 10:00.

So yah! I think I'll do some Megadeth.

LMAO

...and that's why I'm just doing at parties with my friends for now. As I get more practice and more equipment stuff like this will happen a lot less frequently.

The problem has been found that caused the lower sound quality on Friday night. The previous Friday I had borrowed some adapters from Danny. Since he was not there this last time, I had to make do. I found out that the way I patched sound through the board did not work as well. I have the hardware I need now to avoid this.

I still need to look at that mic to see what caused the feedback. That was my favorite mic, it's not an SM58, but it is the best I have.

Nothing wrong with hosting and typing.  I get paid while I'm yacking in here during days.  (and YEAH..  OF COURSE I'm going to divulge the name of my employer)!

(provided you can juggle doing both)

It helps to prioritize the sound mixing first. Once the sound is good for that song I may not have to readjust it, but then again I may, I keep listening just the same.

Two entirely different lines,  two accounts, two computers.

I'm typing on "This" computer,   not ----->  computer.

I work from home.

There also is time between tasks...Assuming I had a job that did require full concentration, I couldn't do it... You'd be amazed how many medical folks are yacking on AOL from nursing stations, Guard jobs, etc..  Do you think ALL of the 3rd shift chatter's are just chatting because they want to be online at 5 AM ?   Many of them are at work and bored

chuck, you got an EQ going to the amp?   you can lighten the load on your amp by tweaking the extreme lows and highs for the mics since the human voice doesn't reach those ranges anyway.
as for the feedback, what type of board do you have?  does it have a preamp fader?  you can mute the line and use the preamp fader to set your max gain.  set your max gain just under clip.  then use your slider (or knob whichever you have) to set the volume of the mic.  this should eliminate (almost) any feedback.  also, make sure your monitor(s) is positioned in a way that the mics don't pic it up.

Thanks for the tips Steve.

My mixer is an Alesis MultiMix8USB, I'm crazy about this thing. One of my problems is that I have barely enough max output because my amp is a home stereo for now that doesn't have much power.

The mixer has 3-band EQ, I don't know about a preamp fader. I am still learning this tech stuff. I'll bet it doesn't.

Here is a link.

http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=37

EDIT: it might have the preamp fade.
