Have you ever had to negotiate your price down for a gig to "get your foot in the door"

If so, were you successful in negotiating the price back up?  If so, what techniques did you use?

I have been known to do a "freebie" once in a while just to get my foot in the door.

This is, of course, only half of the answer. That thread did not come to the next answer, as I'm sure you well know from your last visit to the thread. The following is from taken the page http://www.karaoke-forum.com/topic_view ... C&start=50

It's all well and good to negotiate but,.... NEVER start out low without telling them what your real final price will be and when you expect to get it.    I give breaks for the first 4 weeks,  Then I take it from there.   If they are still not getting people and you will see how big the crowd is, then I may give some money back.    It's like pulling teeth to just start out with a low price and expect them to voluntarily give you more, it very rarely happens.

Trick them...   Print up a flyer telling them that for this month you are running a speacial for new customers.    X amount off of our regularly low price of X.   Everybody loves a sale price.

If you are a new paying customer at a bar, do they give you a discount on you food and drinks for the first month? LMAO

When you get low on money or you get laid off or lose your job, will they lower the price of a hamburger for you.     They'll tell you to hit the bricks and come back when you have enough money.    Stinking freeloader.

I did a private party for a bar owner once.   I played 7 hours at his house.   I gave him a price of $500,  he gave me $350.     He told me he was cheap.    After he went to bed the old lady asked if I got paid and I told her what happened, she came out with the rest of the dough.       It was just me and her, I think she had something in mind.     I took my dough and split.

He's the same bar owner that hired a guy to do karaoke at the bar, for dinner and drinks.

I cut him a break to try and get back in his bar.     What a waste of my time.

One more tidbit.   These two were on a popular national morning TV show.   She was complaining about him.  She suspected him of dating some of the hired help.      He told everybody he had primerib (her) at home, why would he want hamburger (hired help).   When I turned on the TV my jaw hit the floor.    I called my ex, who was out shopping with my mother and told her to get home right away.   She left my mother at the store and went back to get her after they were off.   I would never put my dirty undies out in public like that.

I usually get between 200 and 250 a night for a weekly gig. When I start out I tell the barowner I get 300 a night but to get things rolling I'll give him the fist 6 weeks at 250 then we'll go to 300 if it's rolling well. Sometimes they ask to start at 200 then go to 250 if all is well then I'll bend over backwards and make him feel like I gave him a great deal. You gotta play the game.
