I'm doing a sweet 16 party this weekend and the client would like Karaoke for her daughter and her friends NO PROBLEM !!.

I was amazed to find out that there is a FORMALITY to a Sweet 16 Party
Entrance  / Father Daughter Dance / Candle Lighting Ceremony/ etc.

Anyone ever witnessed or performed at a Sweet 16 Party ?
What is the usual format????  What KJ/DJ games go well with 16 yr olds?

Help!!!

Or you can just set everything up, turn the mic up really loud, calmly say "Happy 16th Birthday, now go find a job!!" and break everything down and go home.

So, I did a little research on Sweet 16 Parties, and found lots of different ideas. Some girls just have a big party with dance music. Others are incorporating elements of traditional Quinceanera and Cotillion parties.  http://www.teenpartyideas.com/html/sweet_16_party.html has a ton of postings by girls who are planning or just had their Sweet 16 parties. That will give you something to go on. I think, though, that you're gonna have to just sit down with the birthday girl and find out what she wants to do and what order she wants to do it.
I didn't have much of a Sweet 16 party...since I'm going to be 32 this year, can I have a Sweet 16 x 2 party??  LOL

Thanks Islandgirl , I've serached the web and mostly what I fouind where "themes" of parties. I meet with the birthday girl yesterday and I should tell you that the family is of "Indian/Hind" acenstry .  I know the music for the party will conatin a little "indian" music whichthey are supplying.   She wants an ENTRANCE with her father and also a Father/Daughter Dance and a CANDLE lighting ceremony with her friends.

I was hoping someone had a what do from a KJ/DJ/EMCEE side of things.

Thanks for the link

Jam,  not sure why,  but I'd pass on one of those "Female right's of passage" events, especially if there are "formalities".... I don't know.... I'd call a female KJ, and ask her to help me out during the event....  If there's one thing I wouldn't have a CLUE about today, it's how to handle anything involving a group of 16 year old girls <shudder>,  sounds scary IMHO... LOL,,  What type music do these girls listen to ?  Jewel, KORN, BISKET, Mariah Carey, and Janet Jackson, and Barney ?  Classic rock to these girls is Hanson..

Seems like the tricky part would be finding a father/daughter dance song that won't embarrass the daughter or her dad.

my mom invited the family over and cooked supper...... gave me a ring with my birthstone in it at the table.... then afterwards there was a cake..... and she gave me a brand new bible (not joking)

no party.... no balloons..... no slumber party..... no red carpet....

that was it......

CANDLE LIGHTING ceremony?   wtf?  :headscratch:

The funny thing she requested "My Girl" as the song to dance with her Father ?

I asked all the questions regarding musical tastes and she was okay with all the standard party / line dance type songs ( elect slide / macarena / ymca / cha cha slide etc/    She said her and fiends listen to Techno type Club Music..So I can throw some of that into the mix.   The more I think about the occasion and the PLACE ( in a dinner cruise ship ) I think I have to take of all the formalities AT THE VERY START OF THE NIGHT before all the guests find themselves on the outside decks taken in the views of New York and the Statue of Liberty.

So i guess it will be INTROS  / DANCE WITH DAD / CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONY WITH HER FRIENDS and then just a party from there saving the Karaoke for after dinner (lol)   Thanks for all the input ...even your's Steve   LOL

Jam,  seriously,  one old song that they used to play at one of my colleges during "Happy Pappy weekend" (I didn't think of that name, I know it's strange, I went to Skidmore before I transferred to a better school ration 13 girls to one guy), was  "Take good care of my baby", that oldy... Sort've a nice song about a girl as she get's older..... That's one idea...

"Your sixteen" (was that John Lenon) ?  might not be a bad selection either... It's not too tacky I suppose..

Sixteen candles....  <---- have this one on hand Jam

There are a bunch

Girls in my neighborhood when I was younger had those as well, but usually they were just slumber parties, where a bunch of good friends would stay over.... and naturally when my sister had her's I made sure I wasn't around.... I don't recall that there was actually any "formality" involved nor did I ever hear that there actually was a "Ceremony" involved... Is it possible this family is just histrionic ?   LOL

Jam,  I'd bet in that type family, her father is going to surprise her with a new :Car: for her 16th birthday,  let me know if that's the case.  These are obviously upper-middle class family's if they are hiring entertainment for something like a "sweet 16th",  but these are GREAT people to know if your in the entertainment business... In a few years who know's,  you might be asked back to entertain at her wedding.

I'd be afraid of being entertainment at a "Sweet 16" party  LMAO ..  Let a girl break those girl's in... I'm not into "Candles" and little one's gathering with Daddy hanging around Jerry.. Even I have certain values

(btw is this party BEFORE or after the girls turn 16?)  LOL

The Sweet 16 Party was a success - Started off with a candle lighting ceremony where the Birthday Girl called up "special" People in her life to light one out fo 16 candles It was very nice.   Then we had a song dedication when the 9 year old younger sister sang a karaoke song to her sister ( Hilary Duff  - Wake UP) again it was cute.   Then it was NON STOP dancing for 4 hours as these 16 year old girls just love to dance. Standard Party Stuff / Hip Hop / Disco ) you name it they danced.
They even had an indian type dance cd - Very good music - sort of clubish and everyone danced to that too
They were having some much fun dancin - we didn't get to Karaoke and then the night was over

Played all the sweet 16 songs and thanks to all for their suggestions !!!!
