Post subject:  Fourth of July Barbecue Suggestions and Fun Recipes

This is a rather popular pasttime during the holiday. Has anyone any favorite recipes for their 4th of July outings? Does anyone suffer the almost galvanizing detestation of bratwursts that I do? I can share one simple, quick n' easy tip:
Do your fireworks and your barbecue all at the same time. I've discovered through empirical experimentation over the years that just shoving a sparkler through your weenie and lighting it up cooks it in half the time.  Just poke a few cherry bombs in your mound of hamburger meat and it not only cooks it but apportions it quite nicely.  Anyway, if you have an unusual things you prepare let us know.

OUCH!  that sounds painful!   i have an easier recipe that does not cal for self torture!
Crean cheese and sausage dip

1# ground pork sausage
2 blocks philly cream cheese
2 cans rotel chile & tomatoes

brown the pork then drain it.  drain the rotel and keep the juice on the side.  add the rotel minus the juice to the pork and let it heat up.  next add both blocks of cream cheese, cover and turn heat to low.  stir once in awhile til cheese melts adding the rotel juice as needed for consistency.
all you have to do now is crack opena a beer of your choice, grab a handfull of your favorite tortilla chips and dig in!
in place of pork you can use shredded crab which will give the dip a very sweet flavor.

I have one recipe that I make during the summer... don't do the 4th since I'm not American.

Caesar Potato Salad

6 cups baby potatoes, cut up
1 lb bacon, cooked crispy
4 green onions
caesar salad dressing of choice, thick preferred
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
cracked black pepper to taste

Cook the potato pieces on the barbeque until tender, then let cool. Cut up bacon into little bits, and slice green onions and mix with potatoes, along with the parmesan cheese. Add enough dressing to cover potatoes, and add black pepper to taste.

This is an awesome recipe if you want something different than the usual potato salad. Another neat trick is to add blue cheese and cracked black pepper to your usual burger patties.

The biggest hit recipe for 4th of July for us is:

Scotcharoos
* Bring 1 cup white syrup and 1 cup peanut butter to a boil
* Turn off heat and stir in 6 cups of plain rice crispies
* Spread and flatten with a sponn in a cake pan

* In a seperate pan melt 1 cup chocolate chips and 1 cup butterscitch chips
* Then spread over rice crispies

Easy and quick

Hi Michael
The only fear of making Scotcharoos is that you'll end up eating the whole pan

No Kidding

Steve, I think me and you could get along really easy....  LOL
That dip sounds awesome, and I'm just gonna try it tonight.

For me, the 4th of July MUST be barbecue... and it was.

But, any meat I eat off the barbecue must be saturated in beer, nothing IMO makes it more tender & juicy.

I didn't mean HERE..... online....

I meant, I'm about ready to pack up and head back to Texas... where the bluebonnets and cowboys grow.  :cowboy:  (did I say.... grow?) Muahahaha

But, I'm thinking your wife may not like that idea. Guess my husband would not either.  :(

And my chips.... I only buy fresh made tortilla chips from the mexi restaurant usually, I hate those bagged store bought ones.  :puke:
