Post subject:  Who Was The Best Old School TV Sitcom Dad?
I've been pondering this serious question for a while now.  LOL  Who was the better
Dad, Ward Cleaver (Leave It To Beaver) or Andy (Andy Griffith Show)?  For you youngsters, go to TVLand.

This is  not even a question! Everybody knows Gomez Addams was the King of TV Fathers!   In his own demented way, I can't remember a TV dad who had a more profound filial attachment to his progeny than Ol' Gomez (with superb assistance from Uncle Fester of course).  Watch the reruns and see for yourself!

I would say Andy but that may be from a geographic familiarity with his type.

My opinion is Andy was the best Dad of the 2. He actually spent time with Opie, whereas Ward was almost always at work. The only time I can recall him talking to the kids was to give them crap  LOL  Andy reminded me of my dad, warm natured and willing to spare time for his kid. Ward was just kind of *there*. His part on the show was really a bit part most episodes.

Ward was like most real Dads (stuck at work when he wants to be home), and Andy was more like the few precious moments that Dads get to spend with their kids. I'd say Andy was the better Dad, even if it was unrealistic.

Andy, hands down. I never liked Ward Cleaver, he was much too false. Real people don't live like that.

Well... my family was very much like Leave It To Beaver! I know I know... sad!  LOL Maybe that's why I'm mal-adjusted to the real world.  :drunk: My dad was just like Ward. He worked alot and when he was home he was wise and strict! He is the most honest person I've ever known. He is 89 and to this day I have never heard him swear.. :no:

My favorite TV dad out of the two would be Andy though... 'cause I'd love to hang out with Barney and have him teach me how to twirl a gun!  :D

I agree with Fierynette and for the same reason.  My dad was very much like Andy.  I still watch reruns of the Andy Griffith Show sometimes.  My dad died about 8 years ago.  When I watch Andy Griffith I can be reminded all over again of what a wonderful guy my dad was.

He played a joke on the whole command once. It was right after I left there. My closest friends knew it was him because it was just like something I would do.

I like Andy....but my personal favorite was Mike Brady.  Why, he got the "Dad of the Year" award thanks to Marcia! Jan was so mad that Marcia got all the glory for that.  Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!!!

Ok, if you're not a Brady Bunch fanatic you have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about....

I liked Mike Brady as a dad. He didn't use preconceived notions of how to work out problems with kids. He handled every problem as it came.

That's true, Jan was always battling for attention against Marcia. There was that one time Marcia got hit in the nose.  She didn't feel so pretty there for awhile.
