Okay with everyones vast knowledge on here, could someone explain
this to me. I'm watching tv this morning and they are all excited about this
breaking news. They have discovered we have black and clear mass that
makes up the universe. What? :O I'd get excited too, but what the heck
does it mean? LMAO

i saw a thing on this about a week ago on late night science or discovery or some such. can't remember a whole lot except that they were searching for black holes by watching stars for "wobbles" in their orbits. a wobble means that something is pulling them out of obrit slightly. that something being a black hole. i guess this post wasn't much help, but you know how i love delving into topics for which i really don't have good input!

A black void that appears to be clear. Meaning it's black, it's clear, you can see through it to the end, however far that is.
I don't think it's black. That's just the background color. You know how everything shows up better on a black background. It's not black till you get to the very end. But remember that the color black is suppose to be all of the colors combined. So maybe it's a rainbow of all colors that just appears to be black because they are all mixed together. And yet it is clear. :O
Ask me how to do good karaoke...

They said black mass and clear mass Bigdog.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one confused by this. I wonder
if the reporter even knew what he was reporting on.

I hate to say too much about this but it may reflect on the theory of the origin of the (current) universe.

An electron has mass and has a negative charge... A positive charge is the lack of an electron and can be referred to as a hole. So a black hole in space exhibits evidence of existence and is part of the delicate balance that holds the universe together. I could elaborate but anything further would only be innuendos of a different subject...

. Charmin, you are simply in denial because the Universe doesn't revolve around YOU....I agree it's not fair that it revolves around dizzy long legged blondes who can't even understand it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Now you know why I insist the Universe is Male, not female.

It was funny you said that because I was thinking the same thing.
Chuck - It was on the local news here in Chicago

Two Neutrons are sitting in a bar
first one ask the other, how you feeling today
The other says, not too good, I think I lost an atom
First one say, are you sure?
The other says, yeah I'm positive.....

Not sure about that. String theory supports the concept of multi-dimensional universes. So there can be a universe where everything may revolve around dizzy long legged blondes. In fact, since humans are no doubt part of the most cognizant and self aware part of this universe, and much of human civilization indeed does revolve around these creatures it may well be that much of the universe does revolve around them as well. Guess you would have to come up with a hypothesis and some way to test it mathematically and experimentally. Probably would take billions of dollars. Think of all the fun you could have with dizzy long legged beautiful blondes and billions of dollars!!

Well, aparently, YOUR world must revolve around me, since I'm on your mind so often. :D
And as for dizzy blondes, bleh, I used to beat them up in high school just to watch their mascara run.
Now blonde men..... ummm.... I could tell ya some interesting stories there. Maybe, just maybe, "blondes are more fun" has a bit of merit to it.

Not sure about the 'clear' matter - never heard of that but perhaps you are referring to dark matter? For years astronomers and astrophysicists have been searching for 'missing' matter left over from the supposed Big Bang (initial expansion of the universe from a singularity - the size of an atom). Much of this search has been for heavy neutrinos. The concern has always been that without enough matter & corresponding mass / gravity to hold the universe together then it would continue to expand forever and eventually cool and end that way. With enough mass the universe would collapse back upon itself to possibly cycle into a Big Bang again. Dark matter is matter in the universe that cannot be observed directly because it's properties don't reflect light frequencies, or due to things such as gravitational forces.
Here's some more I found on wikipedia I believe:
"In astrophysics, dark matter refers to matter that does not emit or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation (such as light, x-rays and so on) to be detected directly, but whose presence may be inferred from its gravitational effects on visible matter. Among the observed phenomena consistent with the existence of dark matter are the rotational speeds of galaxies and orbital velocities of galaxies in clusters, gravitational lensing of background objects by galaxy clusters such as the Bullet cluster, and the temperature distribution of hot gas in galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Dark matter also plays a central role in structure formation and Big Bang nucleosynthesis, and has measurable effects on the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background. All these lines of evidence suggest that galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and the universe as a whole contain far more matter than is directly observable, indicating that the remainder is dark. Dark matter has not been observed directly, and some astrophysicists have alternative theories to explain the observed phenomena; see Alternative Explanations below.
The composition of dark matter is unknown, but may include new elementary particles such as WIMPs and axions, ordinary and heavy neutrinos, dwarf stars and planets collectively called MACHOs, and clouds of nonluminous gas. Current evidence favors models in which the primary component of dark matter is new elementary particles, collectively called nonbaryonic dark matter.
The dark matter component has vastly more mass than the "visible" component of the universe. [1] At present, the density of ordinary baryons and radiation in the universe is estimated to be equivalent to about one hydrogen atom per cubic meter of space. Only about 4% of the total energy density in the universe (as inferred from gravitational effects) can be seen directly. About 22% is thought to be composed of dark matter. The remaining 74% is thought to consist of dark energy, an even stranger component, distributed diffusely in space. [2] Some hard-to-detect baryonic matter (see baryonic dark matter) makes a contribution to dark matter, but constitutes only a small portion. [3] [4] Determining the nature of this missing mass is one of the most important problems in modern cosmology and particle physics. It has been noted that dark matter and dark energy serve mainly as expressions of our ignorance, much as the marking of early maps with terra incognita. [2]"
PS: So if what you are saying is true, they may have found some or all of the missing matter. Hmm that dark energy is more problematic.
