Sung a lot, but never KJ'ed. Small Bars(2 locations, soon 3) want me to KJ starting 3 nights a week. Anyway below is a list of equipment I'm going to purchase. I am looking for a high quality system. Would also like the system to be able to DJ. So my questions are: 1. Generally, what do you think? 2. Mixer board - really can't find the one I want. Looking for something that will crossfade video along with audio, but can only find a Vocopro 7800. Any Ideas? 3. Not really sure on the CDG player. Would like some suggestions. Would be nice if it could play MP3's also. 4. Any other words of eqipment wisdom would be greatly appreciated. P.S. - Are their any other large Karaoke forums where I can post and get others opinions? Just looking at the specs, you seem to be overdriving the subs. It appears that you would drive the two mains off one amp and the two subs off of another amp, correct? In this case, your speakers are rated at 250 watts/8ohms and you are driving them at 275 watts, though this little bit isn't going to hurt them as long as you are not boosting every EQ on the board. BUT the subs are only rated to 200 watts and you are driving them at 275 each. This could cause a problem and blow the subs if you don't watch the levels VERY closely, and I wouldn't even want to risk it, especially when you are going to find that you won't be able to resist pushing those subs to get the max bass you can!! I think the main thing to keep in mind is that the BOSE PA equipment is built for CLARITY and not VOLUME. At only 250/200 watts for the mains and subs respectively, you will be hard pressed to fill even a medium sized venue (50-100 peeps) with good sound. The BOSE equipment you have will be unmatched as far as quality at nominal volumes, however, so I hope that you are working in a smaller venue at lower volumes, or else this system is going to disappoint. As far as a video mixer goes, I'm far from an expert but I DO know that a quality video board is EXPENSIVE. There are plenty of them out there, but they are going to start at around $800-1000, whereas a good audio-only board will start you at about $350. I've looked into it, and for my $$$ it was never worth it to fade in alternate video. If I did want to do that, it is much much cheaper to go ahead and migrate to a computer setup, which can do this and many more functions for around the same price. Anyway, all that said, if you plan on sticking to smaller bars at nominal volumes, the system you have listed is untouchable. HOWEVER, if you have ANY aspirations of getting into a larger bar one day, that equipment just won't cut it. For my $$, I don't think you can beat the Yamaha line of club series PA equipment. You could put together a good Yamaha PA set for about half the price you are looking to spend on the BOSE system. It will not match the clarity of the BOSE system above at lower volumes, but you'll be able to play it at twice the volume without losing any quality. Oh, and P.S., the DBX Driverack PA performs pretty much the same function as the BOSE Panaray, so there is no reason to have both!! |
