How do I convert my songs from my karaoke player to getting it on here? I'm a newbie's idea of a newbie.  What site converts to MP3? Do I need a capture card on my machine? (Cause I don't have one yet)  I wanna put out some tunes 'cause it's in my nature.  Help me.  I may be mildly retarded.

(Disclaimer: for anyone here who may actually be retarded, I mean this in the nicest way possible)  -Sans "What about Mary?"

You have a karaoke machine on your computer? What software is that? I'll go get it.

I just use the music program on my computer - save the song file to your documents as an mp3 instead of an audio file. What program do yoou use to play music on your computer?

Do you have windows media player? You can do it with that.
Go to tools - click on options - go to copy music tab - by format put MP3.

I use Adobe Audition to do my recording and mixing. It's a multitracking program that seems really confusing til you start using it. LOL

I like the way those cats dance. It's sort of eighties.

I know I'm not. It's beddie bye time for this boy.  Tomorrow is another day. Or so they say. I'll have to figure out how to record my songs later because my eyes are closing soon. It's 2:36 here (in the AMish)  zzzzzzzzzzzzz

For those of us who aren't too smart, what's the best way to go about this whole posting songs deal?  If I use media player it won't give me the words onscreen and I'll have to do my best. I can record that way. I would rather use my karaoke machine if possible so I don't have to regulate the vocals and the backgrounds etc. What is the standard here? Everyone knows how and it must be easy stuff for this group. A friend who I want to come online and join us here said radio shack sells an adapter for my microphone that will allow me to have much better sound if I decide to go straight through my machine.  The songs I heard you all sing sounded great and I won't get that sound going through my PC microphone, I'm sure. What programs do you all use. I'm really new to this but I want to do this sometime this week so any info would be great. I'm looking forward to singing and recording some tunes on this site.

Jeff I currently record to a CD Recorder that runs through my karaoke system - from there I rip them in Windows Media Player to MP3 format although my bitrate is set high and I can't remember how I set it LOL. I use a program I found on the net called CD to MP3 Maker....it can convert and/or shrink file sizes from WMA, MP4, MP3, etc. I'm learning Adobe Audition but have a long long way to go. I have bad ADHD and need instant results or I get bored, frustrated and say forget it. This way is working for now anyway, till I get Audition down.

jeff, a lot of folks here use a prgram called audacity.  it can be found on download.com probably.  personally, i use sony acid pro.  i run everything through my board and then through an M-delta 66 to my computer.  works like a charm.  the good thing about acid pro is that the mixing for vocals and effects is very easy.

Maybe I have the same thing. I get frustrated very easily and I now have a new printer and a flat monitor sitting here waiting to be used. If something doesn't jump out of the package and set itself up I get very frustrated. I usually credit it to the amount of caffeine I drink every day but who knows. Thanks both of you for the info. I want good results so I will look at what will work best I guess. More suggestions will also be appreciated.

Jeff, Audacity is a good starter program but it's not terribly versatile. If you heard the stuff I recorded with Audacity compared to my Adobe Audition recordings you can hear a definite difference. Audacity is a good learner program though.

I use audiograbber to rip CD+Gs to a compressed MP3 format. This way I have the grapics too. The best part is that it is freeware and does a pretty good job on disks that are hard to rip.

I only use this software on my own disks.

I finally got one posted in the singers showcase. I did a Frank Sinatra song to come in a little easy.  It took all friggin afternoon for me although I sang and recorded the song on one try just to see if I could get this done. I bought or downloaded two damn mp3 programs because the first one did not convert anything. I got the one that works for free on download.com. I don't know how long I can use it either so I may be throwing more money at this stuff. It's fun for now, also a giant pain in the arse and sort of expensive to get this done.  Now i have my computer hooked up to my eqiupment so now I have to do more or take the whole thing apart again. What a giant pain in the arse! But cool anyway...

Jeff ~
Try downloading the free version of Musicmatch Jukebox.  There's no expiration date.  It will do most of your file type converting and extract audio from CD's.
Here's the link to the download. - Don
