I have about 13000 songs mostly sound choice. I'm having alot of problems with skips, stops, screwed up lyrics the usual stuff after 11 years of full time gigs. I thought of replacing them  through sc replacement policy. Quite a few are unavailable to replace and the total to replace the rest would be into the thousand dollar range. I've been offered the complete sc set on the voco pro for 1500.00 dollars. The only reason I'm even considering it is I just had a major surgery  and I need to lighten the load. I have almost all the songs on legal cdg so I could just delete the ones I havent purchased. Am I treading down a slippery slope.

This is a hypothetical question.    Since you have the originals.   Couldn't you legally have someone make you a copy of the same disc?   Without being illegal?   I'm talking about the ones you can't copy because they are worn out.   Why don't you copy the ones you still can, before you loose them all.    Keep the originals on the shelf.

Have you tried any of these solutions? I have heard that these work great for skipping discs, specialliy damaged surfaces. I think for about $20, it's worth a try. I understand that they actually rebuild scratched surfaces. Give it a try.

they work... for a while. They also totally change the playing surface... you end up getting a "tire spoke" type of look to the disc, and sometimes, it causes problems in playing!

www.doowop.com has a disc resurfacing option... removes a micro-layer from the disc, making it smooth and allowing the laser light to reflect back instead of going a bazillion different ways! LOL!

I tried the Disc doctor... and it killed three of my partner's SC spotlights!

And metal? Sorry to hear about your surgury m'man!

Metalgod, if you have the time, clean them normally, import (rip) them to your PC at a not too high a ripping speed, and that way, you will be able to re-burn them, or go computerized. Software like Audiograbber works for that. I have had numerous disks that were in the same condition as yours, and by following the above methed, I managed to save (copy, shhhh don't tell anyone) 99% of them. I hope your health is picking up.

I have worn out 2 Disc Drs.    They work good.    Your problem might be the other side of the disc, the one with the label on it.   Some of mine I can hold up to the light and see through them.   They are oxidizing and the oxidation eats a hole in the label.     That's why the CD won't last 50 years like they said, when they first came out.

Believe it or not, use Brasso - playing side only.  Old recording studio trick for years to get scratches out of discs.  Give it a try on a disc you don't really care about first to get a feel for it.  Make sure you have 2 soft cloths, I usually have a clean towel & lay it flat for the cd to lay on.  Use one cloth to wipe on the disc, working it in all around the playing surface (you don't have to do the 'straight line' from inner to outer).  I usually work it around the disc for about 5 minutes applying pressure while wiping (though be careful not to push too hard to crack the disc).  Let it sit for a couple minutes, then use the other cloth to wipe clean.  You can then use a regular cd polish at this point following the directions of that bottle.  Most of your scratches should be gone to the point that your graphic glitches should be minimized - if not eliminated completely.  Here is a link that can show you some results with Brasso vs regular cd scratch removers - http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/scr ... repair.htm

If the scratches are on the label side, oh well, you had a nice run with that disc over the years!!!

Like you said, don't be tempted to keep anything that you don't already own.  This is how people can easily become a scumbag pirate, originally thinking they will erase anything they don't own but then figure, ah, maybe I just won't list those songs - then figuring, well i'll just use them UNTIL I get the original disc.
