Let's say you are given a song to do but it just seems bleek. It has some good parts but overall it's melancholy at best. Parts of make you wanne die. Should a person just give up on the song or see what they can do about adjusting it?

What if the crowd hates your song and wishes you would just leave and take it with you.

What if your song isn't working for you.

Are you talking about as a singer or a KJ?

I can remember one time doing High and Dry by Radiohead PERFECTLY and getting NO reaction from the bar... it was called "The Rodeo", so I guess the only music that was allowed to have merit was country...oh and classic rock. I was sooo disappointed and I decided never to do that one again at that bar. What really sucked is it's the only bar I have been to that had it in their book.  :(

I listened to your newer sub and really enjoyed it.

Oops, I was thinking more like singing in a band and the guitarist hands you some music and say we will be practicing it tomorrow and playing it at the gig on friday.

I should have been more specific.

Kewl.. always good to know when people like something I subbed. It reminds me to try it at karaoke and stop being a big baby .

Sometimes big babies are just cute.

The whole band thing can be a nightmare.    That's why so many break up.   Can't decide what to sing, who's the leader, who plays better, what name to use, who's singing what, who's playing what.   It's the old, majority rules thing.   Love it or leave it.

This mostly happens to me when I'm recording a song. Something is just not happening... it's frustrating! I'll usually just close the session and move on to something else. Or get me some ice cream..

My song seems unispired, plain, and off key. I might need to see a song counselor.

they have counselors for that? Wow it could have saved me a lot of stress when I was recovering from bronchitis....

What if the only thing you do is strong falsetto part of 70's ballads ?  and NOTHING you sing in real voice sounds good ?  I have tapes of songs where I've tried to listen to find my register, and compatible style given my voice timbre.. Nothing works for me in "real" voice.. Maybe because I never learned how to sing in real voice... I found that I always tried pushing my range up to the tenor areas for rock... Still, it didn't sound like Boston, The Scorpions, or rockstyle I liked.  What I like to sing, doesn't work for me...and that isn't fun



I LOVE that, don't need the music, although for jazz, and swingbands I suppose I did...for Rock or Ballad My ear is good enough to pick songs up often in minutes.. I don't need that type notice, never needed days, cept for a Steely Dan coverband, that wasn't so easy to cover on guitar... A few hours for a full night's classic rock is enough for me to sit-in on guitar, bass, or keys... It's what I did for years,  standby, or fill-in multiinstrumentalist when I was unwinding, and stopped touring... HOWEVER,  Certain cover material wasn't quite that easy... Steely Dan for instance, took much longer to learn... days at least... Same with some Yes, and a few tougher pieces vocalists were singing that just weren't easy on piano...

When I was sick, my real voice sucked. Now that it's back, I find myself using it a lot more often... I recorded Crossfire earlier today and aside from the yelling part, it was completely natural. And after, when I listened, I didn't get mad! 6 months ago that just wouldn't have happened... I went to karaoke and had my voice crack on the last song. I wanted to cry  :(

They usually use throat voice. I have a dvd for that. I used to try it in my regular singing voice but it didn't work. My Falseto often worked well enough for some singers. Boston has to have the throat or head voice rather than chest voice. CHest voice can't get there and falsetto doesn't have the right sound.

I know this sounds hoky or like a piece of junk marketing but I bout Ultimate Voice Coach from ebay. Yes it has Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson on the cover but that thing made a really big difference for me.

Man if anyone is a poster girl for voice coaching Paula is!  :yes:

How would I practice singing in throat voice ?

What I think part of the problem might be is that it's song in throat voice, but not by someone with a sparkly clean set of chords.... problem is the very clean vocalist has a tougher time getting that rock quality.. you need to be able to touch the gravel abit, it gives an illusion of strong singing even when sung quietly
