Post subject:  Please Help...New a Value On Our Equipment!

Hey guys...unfortunately my wife and I are going our seperate ways.  The split is amicable however we can't seem to agree on the value of our equipment.  Your thoughts would be appreciated.  We are simply trying to place a value on the equipment and not the business as a whole.  I'm not looking for a specific breakdown; just a value that both of us can be comfortable with. Please keep in mind everything is very well looked after:

2 - Mackie SRM450 Speakers
2 - 50’ Neutrik Balanced XLR Cables
2 - Extension Cords For Speakers
2 - Speaker Stands (Crank Style)
2 - Speaker Bags
1 - 4’ Table
1 - Mackie 1202VLZ Pro Mixer
1 - Lexicon MPX100 Dual Effects Processor
1 - DBX 266XL Compressor/Gate
1 - Apex Sonic Enhancer
1 - Apex ACI Powerline Conditioner
1 - 6U DJ Case
1 - 4U DJ Case
1 - Mixer Sliding Drawer
1 - Pioneer PD-V10G CDG Player
1 - JVC 202 CDG/VCD Player
1 - RF Modulator
1 - Yorkville 100W Wedge Powered Monitor
1 - 14” Color TV
1 - Custom Wedge TV Case
1 - DJ CD Carrying Case
1 - White Board w/ Stand
1 - Shure/Samson SM58 UHF Wireless Mic
1 - SM58 Corded Microphone
1 - Audix Corded Microphone
1 - Mic Stand
6 - Karaoke Books
1 - Host Karaoke Book
7184 CD-G Songs Catalogued In Excel & Labeled in Sleeves

* Above list includes extension cords, microphone cables, video cables etc. needed to set up for current shows.  It also includes any equipment manuals.

* Discs are all original and in great condition; titles range from Chartbuster,Soundchoice,TopTunes,Top Hits Monthly etc...

Regards,

Serge

Used PA equipment generally holds 1/2 it's retail price when new....Generally....It's a music industry rule of thumb.

Here in Louisiana, for divorce purposes, you must use 'garage sale' values when determining values on community property....unless you have a crappy lawyer LMAO...You can use eBay winning bid prices as a guide too.

Sorry for the divorce, but glad it's a friendly one....To keep it friendly, I suggest the two of you sit down together and on one piece of paper try to agree on the value of everything you jointly own....by one piece of paper I mean a list that you both agree....Anything you don't agree on, place on a separate list and the two of you try to investigate/research then print out the results for the other to see.

Hope you don't have to split up that fine collection of equipment, but instead are just placing a value on it for settlement purposes.

My unasked for advice is for you guys to attempt to compromise as much as possible on any items you initially don't agree on.

Good luck!, and I hope you both stay friends.....Me and my 2nd wife are best friends and still visit :yum: ....My first wife would shoot me if given the chance...my present wife is trying to legally kill me for the insurance $$. LMAO

My music store guy sells used stuff for half the original value.    It's going to be better and cheaper for you to come up with a settlement on your own.  If the court gets involved   1. you never know what they will do.   2. it gets expensive to have to pay someone to evaluate the business assets.    Just been down this whole road.      PM me, if you want to get into serious stuff.

Thanks for the advice guys.  As amicable as the split is, I'm locked out of the house without access to my PC, files and receipts.  I'm trying to remember retails for everything but it's hard.  I just received a letter from her lawyer with a buyout amount.  The value she puts on the previously listed equipment is $4,000.00 CAD.  Does that sound fair to you guys?

Regards,
Surge

You are locked out of your house and you feel that is amicable? sounds like you are having a friendly divorce, but she ain't playing very friendly....Maybe you think it's friendly when they don't castrate you after they gut you.

So what price is she setting on your PC, files and receipts?

Not making fun, just shocked at your attitude.

Assuming that you have all the original CDG's for those 7184 songs in your posession the retail value of the discs alone should be over 8K so 4K is a good figure to work with.

looks like you have another say 3K in equipment.

If you had to quick sell this stuff 4-5K would be a reasonable price to pay for entry level into the business. However it really depends on your music selection and if all the original discs go with the system, obviously if they did not go with the system then the value would be considerably less.

I confused.   Does she want to pay you or you pay her?   What about the other shared posessions?    Get everything in writing, use checks, have your own lawyer.     Don't use hers.   Even if you want to save money, it will be worth you getting your own.    Don't trust her til it's totally over.

LMAO  LMAO So much for that friendly divorce! LMAO  LMAO

You know, if I had it to do over again...At 20 I would have found an ugly 40ish hag that hated my guts and bought her a house complete with furniture and just got it over with while I was still young. LMAO

Sorry guys...the last thing I wanted to do was start an emotional response to my situation.  Thanks to Flipper for staying on topic.

Don't worry guys, my lawyer is representing me well...the only item in question is the karaoke equipment.  Because the value is subjective, my thoughts were that I could use this forum to present both lawyers with suggested values from people in the business.

Thanks for your input,

Surge

There are two answers to your question.   If you want it to be high, get it appraised by someone that will fudge it up.   If you want it low, do the same.    What's going to be in your best interest?    Don't use our estimate, we're idiots.
