I started off with a name I thought was funny, then I read the rules and found that using a website for a user name might not be such a good idea. I changed my name to Aspires to Mediocrity because it seems that not matter how hard I try I can never do better than that.

Was there a process you went through to pick your user name or did you manage to find your own name available?
Chuck

At the sports bar I have been at now for almost 5 years; there was a bartender working when I first came there.  His nickname was "Boston Dave."  After I had been there for a bout a month, I pulled up one night to unload my gear and there on the marqui was "Kellyoke."  I asked him what's with the marqui.  He said it came to him one night after closing and though they'd use that to advertise if i didn't have a problem with it.  Thought it kind of corny at first.  But I went along and it has caught on.

i am...ahhhh....well endowed...but contrary to popular belief that is NOT how i got the name. my initials are G.G. when i started singing there was a gail and a dale already, and adding a gayle was just too much. my chuckie suggested gigi, not knowing it was already a nickname my favorite uncle had given me when i was a kid. it stuck. gigi was taken on KS, so i modified it a bit.

Someone once said I was like a goddess and called me ISIS...I use that name for trivia and online stuff...  I really prefer my real name...Sharon...I never had any kind of nick name other than the Bird Lady, which is what Dimebag used to call me....

Well my nickname, Maninblack, is an obvious tribute to Johnny Cash of course, but that's not how I got it.
I use to go to Nashville every week to songwriters night at a place called the Boardwalk Cafe. I use to do a set there and then run down to the Bluebird Cafe and do another set, but anyhoo.
First of all, know that I've almost always dressed in black, always have, always will.
Not a goth thing, but just the way I've always dressed.
But anyways, I'm sitting at the bar, waiting for my turn to go up on stage, and a  particular barmaid has my attention, to the point that I'm oblivious to anything else going on around me. Mike(the owner) calls my name, I don't answer, he calls it a second time, and of course he's sitting in the booth looking at me the whole time, so he knows I'm there. The third time he calls my name and I don't answer, he calls loudly over the mic, 'Hey Maninblack, it's your time to go up', of which I finally turned around and the whole place bust out laughing, cos I had been in LaLa land drooling over the barmaid. Anyways, I go up, do my tunes, when I come down off the stage, Mike calls me over, and tells me, 'man you write some sad (@$%&#!), but serious heartfelt music, just like Johnny does, I think the name fits, that's what I'm gonna call you from now one', and so the name stuck.
Well some of my buddies had been in the audience, and when we got back to Huntsville, Ala., they made it a point to tell the story about my little daydreaming incident.
From that point on, everyone called me that. At the time, I was hosting 3 different open mic nights, and playing 2 others as a guest. It didn't take long for the word to get around. But anyways enough of my long winded post, but that's how it happened.

James

I'm Big and my name is Mike.

Actually when I named my company Big Mike Karaoke, I planned on using a microphone as part of my logo (get it, Big Mic) but fate intervened and I wound up with something else instead.

People where I live know me only as Big Mike.  When I use my surname they are always confused until I identify myself as Big Mike.

This is actually one of my many chat names...I have too many names already so I just decided to use it. And of course I own a corvette which is why I chose the name to begin with LOL. Rather boring, but it will do.

Well.... this is the very first forum I ever joined. I started out here as Sheraokee... I just now googled that name... a lot of SingersShowcase stuff comes up... and I used the name Casa~Belle on another singing site.... but I finally just took my first name... cause it was available and Sheraokee seemed ridiculous to me after a while.. it just felt weird..

Last I saw your Password, it was in the refrigerator over in the Tech room, next to those basketball sneakers.  I'm trying to figure out where my wallet was left in here. I don't really bring this up much because of the night I left this place, and when I got home, I realized I left my pants and socks in the comment boxes over in Singer's Showcase. If someone finds my clothing, they'll know from the YMCA "Fish" swimmer card, and my Cubscout Bear card... Who I am[/quote]

I was in a particularly creative mood and using my first initial and last name came to me in a flash of inspiration.  I guess I'm just a "username idiot savant".

Please . . . no flattering comments, I prefer to remain the same simple, unaffected, modest, shy and retiring person I've always aspired to be.

I wish I could say that I have aspired to mediocrity but it was thrust upon me.  I never had a choice.  But just because it came naturally to  me I don't feel a sense of superiority over our friend "Aspires to Mediocrity".  Just a kinship.

Maninblack,

Great story about your name.  I've dressed in black for the past 10 years or so, not because of JC but because we played a club where the owner didn't allow the band to wear blue jeans on stage.  Up to that point my "uniform" for something like 25 years had been jeans and boots.  So I started wearing black because it was the only thing in my closet that I thought wouldn't look stupid.   At the time I worked in a bank so I wore suits in the daytime (man am I glad that's over with) and blue jeans when I wasn't at work.

Now I'm used to it and it's just what I wear.  I'm 6'3" and, like you, I get the inevitable JC comparisons.

If you were to tie me down and threaten me I would probably reveal the the real reason I do it is because I'm just to GD lazy to look for anything more creative.

Larry

My nickname is Babs. Really a no brainer, I guess. And it is short
to type in.
