Ok, just a clever tagline to get a response to a new poster. I recently purchased this home system on eBay and want some feedback....

I plan to set this system up in my 20X40 gameroom and I'm wondering how it will do acoustically with the tin roof.

Thoughts?

Wow sounds like quite the room!! My system is set up in a converted 2-1/2 car garage, but I don't have a tin roof so I can't tell you about the sound. I've slowly built up my system and now have it hooked to a 52" inch wide screen with 5 speaker surround sound - but that wasn't enough so I added another receiver and 4 more speakers . My room here is semi soundproof, except when I open the sliding glass door so I don't get too many complaints. It looks like you got yourself quite a system there...looks like fun!!

wow you got a great deal on the system. Cant complain about that.

Tin roof?  Is this an outdoor party room?  Does it have walls and windows?

Forgive me but it sounds strange to have a tin roof without any ceiling. Speaker placement for best sound will depend on wall and ceiling construction.

Only negative is the power rating.  It isn't 600 watts clean power that is a max rating.  It's probably pushing closer to 100-150 watts, but still should be adequate for the room you are using.

I am not an acoustical engineer but my intuition tells me a few things. First of all, I think the cleanest sound you can hear is if the room is completely sound proof and have no reflections. That would be near impossible to do I think for home set up. I sould try to position the speakers so it provides least amount of reflections. High frequecies will travel in the direction you point your speakers but low frequencies will disperse all over. Keep that in mind when you position your speakers.

My concern about the tin roof, I am assuming that it's exposed at the bottom without any insulations, will vibrate at certain frequencies and make some unwanted noise while playing. Of course it all depends on a lot of things, like your volume, resonant frequency of the tin sheets, etc. but my suggestion is the put something on the ceiling to dampen the sound, may be a canopy or insulation. Just a thought.

Actually, the game room is totally enclosed AND the tin roof is exactly what it is. A tin roof. I suppose I'll have to wait and see. I know my TV sound is pretty good in there. I guess the only thing I can do if it rains is TURN IT UP!!!

Jathoma - sounds like a good fix to me!!

Yeah, I think the only thing you will have to worry about with the tin roof is vibration below a certain bass frequency. Once you have it all set up and hear that the roof vibrates on certain bass notes, just turn down the bass until you don't notice it anymore and it should sound clean enough!!

Just wanted to give an update on my game room.

The tin roof, I'm pleased to say, provides great acoustics for this system.

Obviously, I can't force anyone to make the change, but if you don't have a tin roof, get one today!!!

Here's my problem....I'm obviously not using computer technology for my singing fantasy and I had my father over recently to hear how the system sounded.

Now he's DEMANDING a CD of the songs I'm singing on this system.

So, that being said, can anyone recommend the equipment I would need to connect to my current system in order to burn a CD for my maniacal father?? he's sending me links from eBay like:

I just don't know if these units will work with my system or if I have to add other components!

Since you've already got a mixer built into your system I wouldn't add another. One option is to add a CD recorder to your karaoke system...

This is what I use to record, except mine is a different model - I couldn't find the Sony RCD-W7V on ebay anywhere. I record what I want, finalize the CD, drop it into my computer, rip the tracks that are good enough to keep and put them in a folder and from there I can either post to singers showcase or keep adding tracks till I have enough to burn a CD. Its also great to just record the nights session when I have friends over, or if they want to make their own CDs. It has a pretty long range remote so it makes it pretty convenient.

You can use an RCA to 1/8" converter and run your whole system to your PC - I have not tried this but I was discussing it with a friend of mine who knows this stuff inside and out and he said it would work. However you would still need a recording program such as Adobe Audition or Audacity, and you'd be having to hit record and play buttons all over the place .

My Sony CD recorder does a great job, and I get pretty decent recordings and I don't even have the mixer that you have...mine is only a fraction of that!!

Anyway I hope some of this helps...Drea

You already have a pc, which can be use to record, why spend money on a recorder; I just dont understand.

Have to agree with Jian on this one, all you need is a y adapter to go between your computer's line in jack and our mixer amplifier.

Well to each their own...I don't run a professional show... I set my karaoke system up 3 years ago before I even had a clue. I run it off the widescreen tv, have full surround sound, and an additional receiver with 4 more speakers. I hooked in the CD recorder before I even gave a thought to recording with my computer. I would have to have 40 foot cords to run from my system to my PC with my current set up and that would be a royal pain. Moving everything just isnt' possible with the room set up.

At my parties there is drinking involved and alcohol and computers haven't mixed too well with me . Its just so much easier to push the record button on the CD Recorder remote and party on!! Even when I'm recording myself, I just love that "live" sound with the music blasting around me - I don't record with headphones - I find it boring. Another point... I don't have a real good soundcard on my PC - just a Soundblaster Live and I think it sounds like s**t...that is next on my upgrade list...its great for playing, but for recording I'm not impressed.

I guess it all depends on what you want to use it for....he sounded like he had a party room set up and thats what I have - a converted 3 car garage. This set up works fantastic for me, and even when I do start recording to PC with Adobe Audition, I will keep my current set up for when everyone wants to get in the act.

You're having parties where there is drinking involved?  Tsk, Tsk!  I'm sure that your parents, not to mention the Principal, are not going to be happy about this!  I suppose you have both boys and girls at these parties too!  What is this younger generation coming to?

Parties, alchohol, karaoke, boys and girls together . . . that sounds like a perfect reciepe for hanky panky.

I agree with the PC recording issues. It's just not practical for me to use my PC as it's more of a business machine than a media monster.

That being said, I'll have to decide which external CD recorder is best....

Unless someone has suggestions??

Larry - we have a great time thats for sure!! However when I bring my computer into it, I always tend to download and unzip viruses during the course of the night...now the computer stays off when the alcohol comes out!!

I thought a game room will have a pc.

Purchase a Plextor drive from MTU and it will give you the best quality burn. You can buy plextor elsewhere for a little less but MTU's are certified to read and write CDG format.

Then you can use any program you wish to play your songs. MTU has a software called Video Hoster Lite that is reasonable and can do the trick.
