It's been getting hotter here. 90 degrees predicted for the next 2 days. And
let me tell you the humidity here gets unbearable. You feel like you could cut the air
and water would poor out.
The bar owner didn't turn the air conditioning on yet. I had a packed house last night.
The cold water pipes that run across the ceiling were dripping like rain. We stuffed
towels around them so they wouldn't drip on the equipment. I can't beleive I maintained a crowd through it. Do any of you have trouble with your bar owner not wanting to turn on the air?
Don't get me wrong once the tempertures outside decide to stay the same (hot all the time) he will turn it on and leave it on for the summer. But until he decides summer is here we are stuck in a sauna.

Not sure about where you are. But around where I am when alcohol and the discomfort from heat and humidity mix (especially at the beginning of the season) it creates a great ambience for fights and violence. Many people. (myself included) don't do well when the muggy damp air feels so heavy it's uncomfortable. I never complain about the cold of the winter.. Only time the air around my area smells and appears fresh.... Yet 90+ and very muggy in a congested place with alcohol... Is not a good thing in so many cases...IMO
I'm sure many of you that live in the Southern parts of the country are used to what many of us further north call "oppressive" Heat and humidity. Yet it's something I can't get used to. Not sure why, different metabolisms ? Don't know... I like cool and dry temps.
It just creates another expense besides gasoline prices. Electric Company (Northeast utilities) prices skyrocketed this year... Having Sleeve and window AC on day and night is very costly too...

A lot of club owners actually like to keep it on the hotter side. They save money
by not having to turn on the AC plus they think people will buy more drinks to stay cool. If you have to work in it though, it's no fun at all!

Same here Keith. While I don't keep it quite that cold, I keep it cool enough to feel chilly if I'm not under a quilt or electric blanket... The air around here is just crappy, and the hotter and muggier it is, the tougher it is to breath, it smells foul (not in my condo btw ).. I'd probably be happy furthur north in Canada or Alaska. I live in a valley between two set's of foothills in the lower berkshire range.... the heavy wet air just sit's in this marshland, It's a swamp area on Bedrock, Radon all around too...I probably have my brain damage from some form of swamp gas ! HEHE

It's not that they are at all intimidating. They are total idiot's. As you say, wannabe's... They don't mess with me.. They have no control over anything. That's what the joke is, they aren't even legit.. Management loved them..
The same management my board was firing 2001,, They (along with an old board member we kicked off for unilateral decision making behind everyone elses back), and fishy budget doctoring (which had a strong odor of "kickback" activity) rigged a meeting behind the communities back (management was insubordinate to the seated board at the time prior to a rigged meeting scheme they never thought we'd be able to pin on them (the dopes). Problem unbeknownst to us however wasn't catching them, it was court costs and time needed... Management did get fired in a short time anyway, and the crooked group hired someone they knew to make matters worse.... but this happened months after really screwing up the community, and ongoing crooked behaviour.... A few board members who were slammed to the community by our past seated board did move out, it got ugly here... We were LOUD, but still... People are sheep... Only two were willing to prosecute for having their proxy statements forged... (They never assumed the old board would insist on seeing and following up on all the fake proxies that were forged in order to make it look as though they had a quorum at the meeting). People are REALLY sheepish. It's pathetic. Out've a group of 30, Only 5 ended up willing to sign a retainer and post money up front... Few cared enough to put their money where their mouth was, so not enough interest for a class action suit, (when many found out JUST how much this might cost).
We threatened litigation, notified economic crime squad, Atty general, Atty's, etc. {Do you know what civil trial costs when Atty's won't take something that's not a sure thing on contingency ? they like the quick settlement cases, this would go to trial with MANY subpoena's. We notified whole community, but naturally the crooked managing agent lied in it's own defense}. We spoke with their Atty as well, Owner of company suggested he go along with WHATEVER would keep them this contract that his young manager ROYALLY botched up..Unfortuneately since an inexperienced manager dug a deep hole for himself, and their company; (it was their account's name, and unprofessionalism that would end up NASTY for them, they decided do what's best... LIE), this company was guarantee'd to be fired assuming they did the "right thing" anyway and rectified their managers deliberate wrong-doing, Either way they were gone.. No guarantee when all was said and done, whoever was appointed as "new board" years down the road (after trial) would authorize the money taken out've reserves.. So prosecution wanted a retainer out've pocket and also informed us (several agencies) when all is said and done, we are looking at 10-100K in out've pocket expenses, these cases are NEVER guaranteed, although they appear open and closed... Clearly insubordination on managers part, wrongdoing, but any prosecutor would have a HUGE job studying all aspects of our By Laws. (Managing agent that started getting fat and happy with our account took advantage of a rigged meeting to renew their contract and take a 5% increase to make matters worse, we had them on probation, so they manipulated within the community to attempt to keep the account, they overthrew the seated board, filling positions with a few friends, and people they could manipulate).. On Paper we fired the managing agent, but of course being a predominantly non-owner occupancy community (investor owners out've state), the management company lied to non-owner occupants, many residing out've state.... So the outside managing agent, as well as a crooked removed board member (we couldn't tangibly arrest for anything yet) did what they wanted by taking advantage of a "dummied up" meeting where owners proxies were forged, annual meeting minutes and agenda's were doctored and forged, Agenda was made up by non-legit board member, AND forged. It was a blatant display of ALOT of forgery, and dummying up past documents... Yet it's private property, that's what causes probs... Outside agencies are reluctant to get involved in Coop, and Condo situations. At least that was the case 2001. Florida has made a few changes... We have signed documentation from our secretary that her signature was forged on two occassions. That was ignored by the new crooked board...
So they continued their lying. Community doesn't understand the magnitude of what happened. It's tough for people to envision the degree of corruption that CAN happen in business..It's tough for people to understand just HOW much control an outside managing agent aquires when there's discord within a predominanty NON-owner occupancy invester owner private complex, Managing agent unfortuneately is central controlling agent, when there are problems or questions THEY get called, of course in this case THEY were dishonest and lied.
Anyway, the new group doesn't mess with me.. but I am a constant thorn in their side.. I've cost them ALOT of money... and have full documentation of everything as well as signatures.... Problem is...I don't want to devote any more energy than I need to to this war... (I was the president 2000) we even had two Criminal Atty's on the board... (residents and friends), problem is, this would have to be approached from a Civil angle initially, and it takes ages for these things to work,,, Even injunction would've been a pain... You can't imagine....
Anyway, this stuff can and does make a person sick.... Then there was the short stint with area politics.... That's about as genuine and pleasant as idiots playing political games on boards... I'm not dishonest enough to go along with crooked stuff.. So I end up feeling as though I've taken on city hall... How politicians can tolerate what goes on, I don't know... But when you take a voluntary position, ad see all the BS... You burn out....
I'll tell you, I don't like people !
You are correct Keith.... I don't like it here... But I have ALOT invested here... You know what just moving would cost ? Homes around here cost.... I'm not adventurous enough to take a plunge out've state yet.. I've lived in the Northeast my whole life.... When I got off the road, I needed to chill and settle down.. I'm not the gypsy type.... I get rooted where I'm used to...
Anyway.... yack yack yack..... Time to hit the hay a second time...

I have worked several gigs that had limited or broken AC. If you have your choice between going to a bar that has working AC or not which one would you pick? I was getting paid to be there and I wanted to be at home, for free. What about the paying customers? Bar owners are stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid......Just what I want to do pay money to have sweat dripping off of my hair and running down my back. I'm not kidding, it was that hot and stuffy. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.......Gee, I'm doing everything right, I don't know why we're going out of business....

Yep ! Problem is when the average age is 19-21, and most are horny jocks trying to pick up women (even tho few females will even go to the dive, the ones that do are no prize, but when you are young, stoned, drunk, and dumb as a doornail, you don't figure things out that quickly), The teens and young'uns back in those days just wanted their beer and shnapps..they don't care about the stinky atmosphere... It's like a smelly gym and they feel at home there I suppose ! Needless to say, when I sobered up, it dawned on me..."I'm not going to get lucky here"... OF course that was when drinking age was 18... and pre-DUI... Affordable alcohol was all that mattered. 2-fer one schnaps night 75 cents, pitchers of beer, $1.25.. This stuff can't happen around here anymore... But it kept we drunks happy... A few around here never graduated from those days.... They are 50, and hang in the dumps still... They just don't get it.... Yet they don't care.... It's about getting bombed... staying bombed... and refusing to face reality... Some have the liver of Iron enabling them to stay young and stupid... In a way, I wish I did too.
The heat and humidity doesn't phase them. THey are half dead anyway.

There is no way you can operate a karaoke bar without aircon here. The customers even complained when the ac is too weak. In a karaoke setup the ac need to be 2x or more powerful than in a normal room of the same vol, the reason being the smoke ventilator is sucking cool air out.
Normal evening temp here is 26-28 c. And how hot is 90 F?

I used to play at places back in the late 70's and early 80's that would give you free beer if you were in a band that played in their clubs on a regular basis. That was a dangerous but fun time! Not sure how I got out of that time OK!

Wow it is hot now.
I drove by the bar yesterday to see if the air was on yet. The doors
were closed - that's a good sign.
Friday was bad in the bar, but Sat. was worse. I lost a lot of my crowd that night.
People would come in stay for one song and leave. When I came home I felt like I had heat stroke. I laid on the cold floor for about a half an hour before I got up.
When I said something to the bar owner he said yeah I need to bring in the fans, but
he made no atempt to move.
I hope it is on Wed. I really don't want to get into it with him. But I can't work under those conditions.

Well, I live in the frozen, primitive climate of Minnesota so I'm sure that if they dropped an A-Bomb on us, we would be running out there with Coppertone and sun reflectors....

I'm originally from IL. But have lived in KY/TN (TN now) for 39 of my 50 years. And yes down here the humidity is terrible. I don't know that I will ever get used to it. However, as far as the bar running it's air: Yes, sometimes they seem to be a little lax in getting it running, but I have found that by having a few tables of regulars tell them to either kick the air on or they are leaving, usually does the trick. Paying customers seem to have more of an effect than the swetty KJ.

Don. Most of the so-called "dives" which I frankly often enjoyed playing at the most... Did in those days... I still hear the phrase now
"Smitty, another Pabst please, I'm thirsty again".
I also recall hearing (in a backhand sort've half laughing form of annoyance)..
"Steve, you're drinking me out've house and home, I have to have some left for the customers".
(God I loved those dives) :beermates:

True Kelly. Usually it's not tough to get a bartender or staff member to turn the AC on. Yet when the owner starts chewing them out because of high overhead costs, or when the owner himself is actively employed at the venue, in many cases, they are tighter with the use of their electric. I'd imagine this year is going to be a NASTY year for people being in uncomfortable bars... Electricity costs have skyrocketed, and are anticipated to increase even more in the short-term. Given a year that might not be spectacular for some bars, my guess is smaller business owners are going to be more protective of their "dollar" this year.

Some bar owners just don't get it. It isn't just that day or night he loses
customers, but the customers that don't come back because they had a bad experience the 1st time they came in. I found myself making excuses for him,
telling people it isn't always this miserable. People want to go out and have a good time and not have to worry about leaving because it's to hot to stay. I'd personally go to a bar I knew the air would be on before taking the chance of having to leave to go someowhere else. He is killing his own business.
