I'm looking for a great karaoke machine for home that won't
cost a fortune. I'd like it to either record or be able to record on a cd through my computer. I've seen a few in some stores but they just didn't
sound right, the sound was either too muffled or the voice and music
didn't mix well. Also, who makes the best renditions of the songs...
thanks alot..

as you can tell I'm a newbie when it comes to the hardware and software so please have a little mercy..  :oh yeah:

How much are you willing to spend?

For recording all you need is the computer with a recording program, and your CDG.

You can get a RSQ NEO for about $169-, http://www.acekaraoke.com/rsq-neo-g-c60 ... chine.html

The sound being muffled or the voice and music not mixing well? Don't use the internal mixer on the CDG player. Get a seperate mixer like the  Behringer UB50, http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHUB502 and then mix the music and mic there.

Best renditions of songs, generally Sound Choice is the most popular supplier of karaoke music in the US

The sky is the limit  :D  but $300 will most definately get you something, RSQ's are generally good machines.

As above

I, and many others here, use Audacity (Free Audio Editor and Recorder). You can find it here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

CD+G is the format the disk is recorded, also know generally as karaoke disks, not to be confused with VCD/DVD or Midi
