The first hour, I was back and forth between that and AI, but I caught the last 2/3rds with no interuptions.
(well, if you can call a noisy parakeet, a yapping little Fox Terrier, a telephone ringing non-stop, 4 kids and an opinionated husband "no interuptions" , haha)
My thoughts:
Gretchen rocks!! She is so good live, she always seems like she's just up there "doing her thing", she's doesn't ever seem nervous or anything.
The Big and Rich song was, to me, the highlight of the show. I know alot of people don't like them- they are different- but my lands, they sound awesome together. And that tribute song to veterans was top notch IMO.
Reba, is pretty darn flakey...... but she's funny. Although, her crack about the Dixie Chicks was kinda dumb. That's a whole other story I don't wanna get into.
Oh, and did I mention I fell in love again last night? Dierks Bentley........ god, he's a hottie. But, the way he played the girls in the front of the crowd..... I'm not so sure he's quite as hot as he imagines he is. He's hot.... but I'm thinking a bit stuck on himself.
And isn't Martina such a cutie? I love her singing these oldie country songs. Though, she don't *shine* singing in her lower range like she does when she's doing a higher range song, she didn't seem to have enough volume on that song. She's still awesome. Oh, I entered a contest online to try to spend a day with her when she comes to PDX soon.... so cross your fingers I win!! (no...... I didn't sing or anything stupid like that, it's just an online entry) I've heard she's a cool person to meet.
Who else? Hmmmm....... Oh, yeah:
Brooks and Dun- I'm kinda tired of seeing these guys win so much for "duo of the year".... but they sounded awesome last night.
And Sugarland, (I'm NOT a fan of that girl- at all)....... did anyone else think she was maybe drunk? haha, maybe it's just me but she had a kind of wild look in her eyes while performing.
I'm a big fan of Sara Evans...... and that song she sang, I've been DYING for it to come out on karaoke, I LOVE it....... but good lord, she was so off key last night.
Anyhow....... just curious if some others watched it, and watcha thought about the show. (and....... I'm bored) :D

What's the names of the Big And Rich song nad the Sara Evans song?
What is it about the Sugarland girl that you don't like? Her personality or voice?

I didn't catch the name of the Big n' Rich song...... but hang on, haha, I'll look it up:
Sara Evans= "Coalmine"...... I think you seen that video on AOL? Or maybe it was Mattie I shared that with. ??
Sugarland? I can't stand her voice. She's got this wierd fake-twangy thing in her voice, almost "whiny", that I just can't stomach. For instance, on her first song, "Baby Girl" (atleast I think that was her first song)..... on the words "world" and "girl" and "through" and "true"........ it just........ BUGS me. I don't know if that's just her way of pronouncing, or if she's trying to twang it up... but it just grates on my nerves.

Oh, and gosh........... HOW in the heck did I forget to mention this:
The Buck Owens tribute. Okay, Big & Rich will have to take 2nd place for "highlight of the show". That was an awesome tribute. None other than my little favorite tight jeans cowboy Dwight did the tribute...... him and Buck Owens were pretty tight knit. And to anyone who read my earlier post from a few days ago..... about him rockin' out on stage in those jeans of his.... if you saw the ACM's, ya now know what I'm blabbering about. :D
And Carrie Underwood, was pretty awesome. Though she got a bit emotional and couldn't hold the last note of the song cause her voice broke- and her sticky bra cup was showing when she received an award- LmAo- she was great.

Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland's blonde) does have a distinct twang to her voice.
It kinda tripped me out the first time I heard her duet with Jon Bon Jovi...it's not often that the female has a lower voice than the male she's singing the song with, but she DEFINITELY does on that song

I think she actually sounds MUCH better on that song than any others I've heard her do. I liked that one, but then again...... that funny thing wasn't so prominent in that song.

It IS most prominent on Baby Girl..."Something More" and "Who Says You Can't Go Home" are less twangy...come to think of it, so is "Down in Mississippi and Up to No Good"...
She's kinda eye candy too...

Oh, of course, I forgot about that......... guess I should overlook the parts of her voice I don't like....... long as she keeps on being "eye candy".
Bet you think Britney Spears is a natural talent too, huh? LMAO

Um...NO...the two really have nothing to do with each other...I always thought X-tina was a better singer
Besides...I never thought the LEGAL Britney was all that anyway

ok now I have to ask....
does anyone else think that Sara Evans absolutely SUCKS live??
every single time I watch her perform live she sounds very sharp..... it drives me nuts cuz she gets SO much accolade and I think she blows! !
while I was watchin, I was like "Lord, don't give her a standing ovation" she didn't get one... thank god.
I mean... sure.... she's a better singer than me, but c'mon, she's makin too much money for not enough talent.
WHEW! I had to say it!!

Yeah, it's sad....... but she does usually go off-key when live. (badly) If you listen to her earlier recordings too (like....... "Three Chords and the Truth")........ her voice even in a professional mix, was all over the place.
I really like- some of her stuff- but she obviously has her songs severly "doctored up" when the cds are made.
Ah well, I listen to some of her stuff, but dunno if I'd go to a live concert of her.
Hiya Crystal.

Sara Evans has always sounded a little "funny" to me. Some songs she sounds great on, but there was one in particular..."I Could Not Ask For More"...she hits a note that will forever sound like a car horn honking to me

The title track Odie......... Three Chords and the Truth. I LOVE that song, kinda a slow sad song, but it's one of those that kinda *grabs ya*.
(yes I did say her voice was "all over the place"....... but that didn't stop me from liking the song)
IMO, you can hear a huge difference in how her voice has grown.

Hiya Blue
I can't believe someone actually AGREES with me! I thought I would get arrested for sayin' that! hahaha!! jk!
Dave, I know exactly the note you're talkin' about in "Could Not Ask For More" EEEEEESH!
Anyone catch her performance on Nashville Star? omalord! It cracked me up! The first thing that went through my mind is "good thing the judges aren't gonna judge HER!" they panned to the contestants who were sittin' off to the side.... the look on their faces was "ok keep smiling..... this hurts my ears, but just.....keep smiling"
*sigh*..... priceless!

OK, she's sharp on that one for sure. The production on her recordings has improved a lot over the years.

Yes, I recall commenting when she sang on Nashville Star, that all the contestants were doing a better job vocally than SHE did. On the ACM's..... I was excited to see her come on, and then almost jumped outta my seat when the music started- I LOVE that new song. But she left off the part at the end..... I dunno if you've watched that video on AOL music of that song? Or heard it before?...... but it kinda repeats all the verses in a very fast, kinda breathless pattern, at the end. When I first heard it I thought "Dang, that one will take some breath to get through"...... I guess she can't do it live though, cause she noticeably cut out that part. But yikes, she did so bad on it anyhow.
Actually, quite a few singers are not so hot at those live tv shows.... I also saw Julie Roberts sing on Jay Leno...... and oh ma gosh, she was horrid. About he best I've ever seen live- as far as always sounding great wherever you see them- is both Martina McBride and Gretchen. They sound just like on their cd's. IMO they are true naturals.
