How many people get stupid phone calls from people with a question about karaoke? I have had so many stupid ones. I had one woman call me and ask if she could bring her kids out to karaoke. I explained no, the bars I work at don't allow children. She started yelling at me on the telephone. I just hung up.
Today I had a call from someone asking me where to buy karaoke discs. Thankfully my husband answered my phone that time. He has a little more diplomacy than me. I would have told her to get on a computer and "Google" karaoke cds. I hate when people call me and it has nothing to do with the reason my phone number is listed. Do you call Davis DJs and ask them what the latest dance song is or where to buy a music cd? Not me.
Anyhow, sorry for the rant, thanks for listening.

When I had a yellow page listing - listed under karaoke, I got calls for karaoke discs/equipment sales all the time. I just explained that I was a a mobile company & buy my discs from so & so. Then I got an affiliate status from a few companies, then I directed them to my website. Made ok money for doing absolutely nothing but having a link!

I hate those calls too. They usually are asking if I'm at the bar that
night. I guess I wouldn't mind if I told them yes and they actually came!

Better to have calls asking questions than no calls at all. You never know where a call can take you to, either a private party of some sort or a steady gig.

I got a call from a venue i will NOT ever work for unsless the owners leave...asking me to let my son use my second system to work against us on sat nights.....My son went "what"?...i don't want to do that, I've never EVEN talked to those people! "
He works with me when croakie can't...and the second "system" is my extra CDG player. these people have no class....Their bar is lucky to get 2 people in it a night..and even with their pool tables they get no one in there. They forget your drinks...overcharge you, and if you order food there...you are lucky if she remembers it..and when she does...it's cold!...

Timber - I know your right. It is just aggravating sometimes. This year
a patron managed to get my cell phone number. I was at work, where I
seldom even take calls from family because it is so hectic (from Jan. - May, tax office) The guy just wants to know if I'm working karaoke that night and wants to chat. Now imagine I have 2 phone lines in my office with 2 people on hold, and appointments waiting. I was polite and told him yes I am working tonight. I explained I am at my day job, extremely busy and next time could he please call the bar instead. He didn't show that night. Okay no biggy, but he did this 2 more times.

No, my primary reason for going back to Kansas City was I wanted to be back here for my dad, and for my ((cough cough)) real job in Information Technologies... and hunting a place to live down. The funny part is, screeners for apartments and rental places won't approve you until you're actually WORKING. Despite adequate savings and good references. Oh well, that got solved today when I finalized one agreement with a job. I'll be leaving temporarily to go to Omaha, Nebraska for training for this company, and then going back to KC after that.
Then I still gotta go back to Portland and finalize the move.
Unsure if I'll open up the karaoke company or not. For now, it's in my roomie's garage! Best home system ever! !
Life's busy for the old fat man, believe me! !

Several years ago, I once placed a classified ad in a Neighborhood Paper. The add cost me $200 to run for 2 consecutive weeks. I got 1 call as a result of that ad. It was from (what sounded like) a Russian woman. She was asking how much I was charging for my Garage Space. How you get Garage from Karaoke, I'll never know.

It's funny how you can be very clear about something on your website or advertising ... but some people are still clueless!
My Google ad reads:
We Bring Karaoke To You
For your party or corporate event
in Seattle, we host karaoke fun!
Clicking to that page will show very clearly at the top:
RENTAL? Note we DO NOT rent karaoke equipment by itself, it is only available with a hosted package.
Wouldn't you know that people still call to ask how much it costs to rent my karaoke machine?
Interestingly, on some occasions I have been able to convert those calls into buying a hosted package at $500+. So as has been said, better for the phone to ring than not ring. What's 60 seconds out of my life to talk to them?
