Hi: I'm rather new to making these little recordings of mine and submitting them. What I've been doing is playing the background on my computer speakers and recording with the Microsoft Analog Recorder. I use the mic that came with the computer. I'm not always thrilled with the sound quality of my stuff (sounds strident at times--this singer taken into account of course!). I'm guessing from some of the descriptions people have in their submissions there is equipment available out there for better karaoke sound reproduction. Could anyone help me out, perhaps some suggestions on a modestly priced unit that is easy to use (also keeping in mind ease of file conversion)? Thanks for your valuable time and advice! All you need for the moment is a mic and a headphone. The mic that come with the pc can't handle high vol (SPL) and your singing will sound distorted. So just buy any stage mic. Then make sure you have an 1/4" to 1/8" adopter for the mic to be used with the sound card of your pc. Use the headphone rather than the speakers because the sound from the speaker will be recorded thru the mic. this will produce a ghostly sound in your recording. You need a proper recording program and there are free one. I use KRISTAL but most people here start with Audacity. here is the link. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Learn how to use it. And here is a good link http://www.daniel.uklinux.net/tutorial/ hope this help. and the whole set up cost you less than $50. use the set up until its time for you to up grade to buying things like a condenser mic, pre amp, pro soundcard etc |

Thank you for your advice Jian...right now THAT is what I do, record the music track over the mic---the results are not very satisfactory! Again, I appreciate your taking the time to educate me! Michael |

That is what you should not be doing; recording the music with the mic. Rip the music and import it to the recording program. Then sing thru the mic while the music is playing from the program. |
