Last week he comes running up and asks if I have a song that talks about fire.  First off he rarely talks to me and never asks me to do things for him.  I'm standing there singing him songs that come to mind.   I asked him if it was the REM song.  No, how about Fire by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown?  He said that might be it, he wants me to sing it right away and dedicate it to Ralph (not his real name).  So I put the song in, dedicate it and sing the song.  Thinking I'm doing him a really big favor.   15 minutes later I went up and asked him if that was the song he was thinking of.  He said yep.  Do you know what that was all about?   I said no.  Ralph went to prison for arson.  Laughing, he said Ralph ran out when he heard the word fire.  I said that's real nice now he'll be burning down my F*****g house.  I think he knows I'm pis**d.  He just told me not to worry about it.  Because he's cured of his sickness.  I'm not as willing as him to believe Ralph is 100%, if you get what I mean.   Now, I didn't see Ralph so I can't recognized him to apologise or to make sure he isn't lurking in my neighborhood with a can of gasoline.  I have been playing this bar at least 8 years and he just added a second night.   Paid me $70,000 over the years.  Always pays, no questions asked.  This has been one of my most consistant jobs.  I don't want to quit because I just lost a really sweet 2 night job at another bar that just got busted for operating without a license for the past year.  I didn't know about that until it happened.   11 LCBers showed up to clean out the bar.   Wouldn't want to pay that fine.   My business reputation hasn't been hurt because the only ones that know are him & his wife, Ralph and me.  And maybe my house sometime in the future.

Woah, that's crazy. I'd at least ask the owner to forewarn you the next time he pulls a prank on someone that he involves you in. He needs to at least fill you in first.

The bar owner claims "Ralph's cured now",  but "ralph" goes running out've the bar as soon as he hears the word "fire" ?

Interesting

what a crappy thing to do to You and Ralph. I doubt if Ralph would retaliate against you for singing the song. If Ralph and you had no history how would you know about his past.

On the other hand....the bar owner opened himself up for some potential problems.

What a Jerk!

I agree with Kappy's evaluation there. It sound like the owner knew the word "fire" would trigger some kind of reaction and you were used as the messenger for it. Not right- but what can you do.

I don't understand what type business owner get's off on alienating his customers. If Ralph is a paying customer, what is this bar owner doing ?  Why doesn't he just play a practical joke on his whole bar,  have the KJ yell,  "there's a bomb in the building"... That'll be funny, he can shoot himself in the foot all he wants. and laugh his way to the unemployment line... I don't understand his motive. An employee might do such a thing, yet a "bar owner" ?  Seems counterproductive...

Ralph has an advantage.   He knows where I am every "Night in Question".  And what I look like.  One more thing.    Ralph doesn't know it was the owners idea.  He might think it was all mine.  That I was out to get him.  Is he 100%.

I was singing a new song for me so my eyes were on the screen.   The Pope could have come & gone.   Second, I didn't know I had to be on the look out for a conficted arsonist.   I thought I was doing the owner a big favor.  If I know him there was definately a Ralph.   Don't worry, I'll post the pictures of my house in flames.

You are giving the bar owner waaaay too much credit.  Trust me it wasn't an April Fools joke.  I'll admit it would have been a good one.   Ralphy boy is either adding an extra couch session or a bigger gas can.  1-800-FIREBUG    It's an emergency!!!   I have an urge to burn down a karaoke system.

Man you sure do like to flaunt your money & how much you spend alot!?!?  I spent over 40K in discs, I make blah blah per gig for the year, this owner paid me so much over the years.  To be frank, it's not impressive.

Are all bar owners jerks?

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I think the joke was as much on
you as it was Ralph. There is nothing you can do now, but let the bar
owner know your discontent. Since this is the first time it has happened
you can think of it as a hard lesson learned. I think quitting would only hurt you,
not the bar owner. Now you know next time Mr. Bar Owner wants a song sung or dedicated, he can sing it himself!
If Ralph was that upset he won't come back. I
wouldn't worry to much.

Wow, you take things too seriously.

Chalk it up and forget about it.

Sounds like the only joke is on you.

I am the god of hell fire, and I bring you
Fire, I'll take you to burn
Fire, I'll take you to learn
I'll see you burn

For some reason I was under the impression this song was "The Doors".

There is no mention of the relationship between the Barowner and "Ralph".  Perhaps they have been friends for years.  Friends always do things to "get" each.
To me, it's quite funny...
However, I do think the bar owner should have let you in on the "gag".

Well, the bottom line is the club owner is an idiot when it comes to practical jokes.  Arson is a little too serious to be in my top ten list of humorous, practical joke topics.
