HI guys. Im back. I just got the speakers and cable and the mixer. I connected everything. I only have one speaker so I connected it to the A1 jack on this mixer and set it to mono birdige (lowest setting on the slider switch right). Well I can not get a single peep out of the speaker! The signal light blinks on the device one when I talk into the mic but no sound is coming out! Okay to make this easier I tried connecting a cd player to the 2TR jack at the top and I can not get the mixer to get a signal even. I can not figure out what I am doing wrong. Can you guys please help me out. |

Mixer Bad? Cable Bad? Speaker Bad? Try different speakers and cables. If you have pan knobs, check them. Check for MUTE buttons If all else fail RTM (read the manual).... http://media.zzounds.com/media/EMX5000E ... a011f0.pdf |

read the manual and connected headphones to it and everything works through headphones. Could it be a bad cable? |

Set the switch from bridge to stereo & still use the A1 speaker out. Doubtful it's a cord, more than likely it's something simple like a mute switch or a main fader not assigned correctly. Haven't had a chance to thoroughly look through the manual yet. |

#1: Move the speaker input to the B1 jack (I assume it is a Speakon connector? Otherwise, a 1/4" connector should be in the B2 jack.) For whatever reason, the B inputs are where the mono signal is sent on this particular mixer.... #2: Switch the operation to regular mono mode (Mono/Aux1). Lonman is right, the bridge mode will put 1000 watts into your 500 watt speaker. NOT GOOD. The Mono/AUx 1 mode will send 500 watts to your 500 watt speaker and you'll get all of the musical information sent to one channel (unlike stereo mode where you may lose some of the info that is being sent to the other channel). #3: For now, connecting the CD player to the 2TR channel is fine, but you will get a MUCH better sound if you go buy RCA to 1/4" adaptors from Radio Shack (like $3 each) and connect your input to one of the mixer channels). FOR NOW though, keep it connected to the 2TR and make sure the 2TR knob (in the 2TR section to the right of the mixer) is turned up. Make sure the PFL switch in this section is NOT turned on. #4: Make sure the main fader is turned up (in this setup, the MONO OUT main fader will be your main fader!!). #5: Make sure the AFL switch on the MONO OUT Fader is NOT pressed. That should do it....let me know if it doesn't!! |

thanks guys it turned out to be a bad cable! I got it from cheaplights as per lonman suggestion . Hopefully they have an exchange policy. Anway lonman I thougt the max rating of the speaker is 1000W. If I set it to stereo than I will not get all of the musical instruments then right?DontI need it set to mono? |

I buy from them all the time never got a bad one yet - knock on wood. Quote: Anway lonman I thougt the max rating of the speaker is 1000W. The PEAK rating is 1000 watts - this is what the speaker can handle for very short bursts. That is not a continuous rating. The Program rating is 500 watts - this is the rating you want your amp to push. Also if you run it in stereo, you just compensate your pans on all channels to hit that speaker only, however if it has a mono switch, then use it as Topher described. Like stated I haven't really had a chance to dig into the manual too close. Worked on it a couple times but didn't do any actual set-up on it. <snipped from Yorkville site> POWER RATINGS Finally we have speaker power ratings. They are expressed in watts, everyone knows that, the question is, what kind of watts. Once upon a time it was "RMS" and now it's "PGM" (program) power. One of the reasons for the change away from RMS (aside from the fact that it was a technical misnomer) was all the marketplace misunderstandings about translating RMS ratings into applied power. Back in the 1970's when everybody was learning about sound systems, you might hear someone say, "Oh I know that speaker. The rating is 100 watts RMS but you can hit it with two times that much power." Go around the corner and you might hear someone else say, "RMS times three, that's how much power you sock into that speaker - in fact any speaker." (argh!). Meanwhile speakers, horns and tweeters were blowing up like popcorn and repairmen were the only ones making a profit - at least that's how it seemed. Thankfully, "program" power ratings are more reliable when used the right way. Now, when you see "pgm" you know it means "APPLY NO MORE THAN THIS MUCH POWER". Life is simpler and safer. Oh yes, it's worth noting that applied power is shared by speakers. Two 100-watt seakers powered by the same mono amplifier or one channel of a stereo amp can handle a total of 200 watts (you already knew that, right?). |
