Post subject:  Stage or no stage. New TOPIC related to HOW HARD.

I use cordless mikes to enable people that normally would not get up in front of a crowd.    Having the ability to stand or sit in any part of the bar has helped to get many people that have stage fright singing.   If they want to be in front of everyone they can and if they want to hide behind the bar they can.    I don't like getting on a stage.   I do it, but I don't like it.    I never set up on a stage if I can help it.   I don't want people to feel intimidated by having to come up to me with slips or to get a mike.   A psychological thing.   I'm on their level.   I personally think this is a better way to go.    Less stress on the mediocre and newbe singers.   People go into a bar and they usually sit at the same table or bar stool.    It's a comfort zone thing.   What is more "comfort zone" than singing right from your table?  I bring the mike to you before you're up.   I doesn't get any more comfortable than that.   Only one gig now even has a stage.    I set up on the opposite side of the room, beside the stage.   Most bars around here are old and were made for getting a shot and a beer, not for entertaining.   One other reason.    I don't like putting 800 pounds of equipment up on a stage if I don't have to.    But it's still about getting more people to feel confortable when they sing.    I think they can get into their singing more without the spotlight glare.

Why are there 2 posts for the same thing. I thought I was going crazy
for a minute.

I set up where the sound is the best and there is room. If someone wants to sing from the bar or tables it is cool with me. I personally will sing anywhere.

I prefer a stage to sing on, but do not like to set-up on the stage.

A stage for the singer is a good idea, even if some may perfer to sing from the table. I dont see why KJ must  set up on the stage; that is the Badest postition to mix.

When I played out Jian,  my feelings were ANYTHING that keep's drunks cigarette ashes, and embers from burning my equipment (which seemed to often double as an ashtray, and sticky drink support) was a good thing.. Stages sometimes protected my stuff from damage by setting a distance from destructive stuff..

Since I'm not involved in the entertainment areas of Karaoke however, I won't take part in this poll.

Yeah Jian, especially the smaller more congested venues.  You couldn't even go in with decent clothing for an hour without walking out with burns and stains, not to mention what that environment did to equipment that was really decent... Now while things have changed somewhat in terms of smoking in many locations, That's just my own memory as to why I liked a partition between myself, my equipment, and alcohol induced behaviour...  The more surface area of equipment you had, the chances became MUCH greater of damage incurring

I prefer to sing from the stage but  I have been known to sing from the floor too, sometimes even while sitting in a chair. :D

STAGE For pics of my setup see latest post in Why kjs sing... I prefer stage we can setup stage monitors and mics in small corner or big stage. I set the rack out in the crowd in another little corner. With this setup I can adapt to any situation and rock..

If singers want to sing from comp monitor thats no problem I just turn the fx up on the announce mic. I accomodate all... even some in wheel chairs.
