Shopping to replace a fellow KJ's system. The EV Force i Two-Way is our ear-choice over the Yamaha S115V Club Series (and a similarly priced JBL). Any opinions on them? Also, looking at the Yamaha EMX312S powered mixer for the EVs. Salesperson recommended the EMX512S, but I wasn't sure that the extra power was necessary, let alone wise, for the lower rated EVs. Other than power (dual 300W vs. 500W amps), they seem to be identical. This will be installed in a pretty small bar. Appreciate any comments. |

Marty I use the Yamahas S115IV - previous version but I would reccomend them to anyone. Compared to my Peavey SP5G's - The Yamahas are smaller, lighter and also give a big full sound. They are built solid and I never had a problem with them. Can't comment on the EV's as I never used them. |

All those speakers are pretty comparible for the most part - including power specs. I like the Yamaha's or JBL's (assuming you are talking JRX series). EV also makes good speakers, these weren't their best but neither are the JRX series. If the EV is the one your ear likes, then that should be your choice. As far as power, I would also recommend the 512 over the 312. Main reason being is speaker efficiency. You won't need to turn up as high & get "clearer" & fuller sound without eq'ing as much as well - over eq'ing to compensate can blow speakers too. All 3 speakers you mentioned all should have 500 watts per channel being pushed to them to make them work to their fullest. Size of the room don't matter, the extra power isn't necessarily for volume, but speaker efficiency & less chance of blowing. |

I also run the Yamaha S115V Club Speakers and would recommend them to anyone. I would venture to say that the range of sound that comes out of these speakers is as good as it gets in a 500 watt speaker under $500 each. In particular, I don't think there are any 2 way speakers under $500 that can compare to the S115V's bass response. I have had mine for over a year now and have even clipped them a few times (trying to eek out a little too much bass, my error!!) and they didn't blow and still work flawlessly. |

I only use Yamaha speakers. Had a set of PVees once. Blew out 4 18" Black Widows. This was in under two years. I wouldn't take PVees if they gave me a truck load, FREE. I use the 15" and horn tops and 18" bottoms. Once a magnet fell of the speaker. I credit that to the guys working for me not being as gentle with my stuff as me. Never blew a Yamaha speaker in 14 years. |

Blew Black Widows? Wow. Never had that happen, except when I was underpowering & it was clipping. |

I would take the FREE Peaveys. I would give them to my competition. |

I'd take em, provided they were the SP series, anything less I wouldn't want. Mine work great. |

Thanks for comments. I was set on Yamaha going into this, but the EV just completely surprised me. I'm going to go back and check them out again this weekend. The 512 mixer looks to be the one for either speaker. |

I have a set of the ev's and a set pf peavey sp-2's. Both are good, I think the peaveys are better. But I had a set of jbl's I Traded off, I think the ev's and the peaveys are both superior. |

I just replaced my old system with Carvin 1584s. They are an incredibly warm 3-way cabinet. They sound absolutely INCREDIBLE! I just did a gig last week outside with 150 people on a roof top. The clarity and sound performance was outstanding. They blow my JBL Eons away. Carvin makes the non-powered 1584s for $349 direct. I also added in a pair of the 1801 subs for big gigs and using the whole set for my band. The bass is punchy, clean and thunderous, not muddy and undefined like other I have heard. I am using a 4 channel carvin amp. The sound is crisp clean and sound like live music. Really incredible sound! I would highly highly reccomend these speackers, you would not be sorry if you purchased them... They ship from the California factory and you can price/order them on-line from the factory site. and yes... I do not work for carvin... just a really happy customer in virginia! Best Regards Bob |

Carvin amps are just as killer too, I use them nearly exclusively as soon as I can get the means to replace my sub amp. |
