Does anyone use lighting effects at wedding receptions? If so, what type of lighting would be appropriate. The only thing I have is the American DJ vertigo lights would that work or should I incorporate something else with that. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. :D |

When I did dj weddings, I mainly used a vertigo for faster dances, a mirror ball or rain light of some sort on most of the time & on occasion brought in an 8 foot truss with 4-6 par 46 cans & NSI light mixer that could be programmed for scenes & tap chase syncs. |

I booked a wedding at the end of the month and I am looking into to buying some Lighting. Currently I have only 1 Vertigo light and one other sound activated light (not sure of the name). I was looking into buying a set of 4 linkable sound activated lights http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=801008 I don't DJ big weddings often so I'm not sure if this set would be ENOUGH lighting. I already have a Tbar light stand. looking for advice -keep in mind I do not want to spend TOO much $$$ - $250 range |

It all depends on the gigs for me. I have almost full set of lighting for DJ gigs, par cans, strobe, mirror balls etc. However, I find that for Karaoke gigs, minimal lighting works best. People who sing don't really like too much flashing lights because they distract them from reading lyrics. I usually bring only the mirror ball and maybe couple of par cans if the stage area is not lit. |

I use all dmx Lighting. As far as any equipment goes you get what you pay for. I reccomend Martin Lighting. A Martin Raptor $230 and a Martin T-Tex $260 will provide a nice basic lighting show. If you looking for basic cheap stuff check out cheaplights.com Pick up 2 Mushrooms $40 each. And a Generic T-Tex 112-SABAR $101 Mount the mushrooms on the t bar and the Barrel effect on the pole. You will need 3 clamps and some type of lighting switch. |

I do a lot of weddings. Basic lighting set-up is a Vertigo, Mystic, Trance Wheel, Starball-II and Mini-Starball. Am planning to add a Line Dancer. These types of lights work well and do not require much maintenance or effort to work with. There are many others - Agressor/Progressor, etc. Sound activation that can be controlled (sensitivity) is important to me. DMX units are nice, but the set-up/programming has kept me away from them - maybe I'm getting technically challenged as the years go on too. I did see a recent demo of a Martin unit (forgot the model) that was absolutely awesome - it was out of my budget though. I think that one light could pretty much carry a night with the right programming. |

I just ordered a set of (4) linkable lights from Chavet ( TRACERS) . This seems like it will do the job for me. Cost was under $200 and I don't usually do BIG weddings etc. |

just keep an eye on duty cycles I have an avenger and a mine that are cool but I run one for ten minutes then switch to the other one to allow cooling down time You will ruin them if you don't |

We use two sets of tracers, 8 par 46 cans ... two mushrooms and a vertigo. This is usually MORE than enough for most weddings. |

Do most use some sort of "controller" or is an ON /OFF type lighting strip effective enough? I figure on using the tracers and the Vertigo I already have for the UPBEAT dance sets. What is a good light/s to use just for slow or mood lighting ??? |

I use an NSI MC7008 8/16 channel light mixer. It can set up scenes, tap chases, tap fade chases, or a mix of scenes & chases, full blackout, individual bump buttons for each light & can control DMX lights as well. |

Well I received the light package this weekend and was able to set it up and "play around" a little with it. These lights seem to be able to do the job I need this coming weekend. (Chauvet Tracer 4 linkable lights) . I'll probably add another mushroom type/Vertigo giving me 6 lights all together ( 4 tracers and 2 mushrooms) They seem to all fit on the T bar stand I have. What do I use besides a typical "power strip" to run the electric from 6 lights on the stand to my rig where I have an 8socket on/off strip to control the lights? I searched around and found many CONTROLLER type switches but they all seem to be MORE than just and electrical connection.? |

First rather than getting another colored light, I would recomend something like a mirror ball, or mini-moon. It will provide a slower white light for the slow dances. As for controlling the lights, yes, what you have will work, but may I suggest something like this.... http://www.americandj.com/product.asp?P ... ontrollers With the SC 8, you have the controller with the switches mounted on your rig by you, and the relay packl pack, mounted on yout T-BAr/Truss. Then you run all your lights to the relay pack, thus elminiting the need for A LOT of extension cords. A small 9pin din cable (looks like a thin monitor cable) is ran from the cronroller, to the relay pack. And also you can add an additional relay pack if needed (not adding another ealay pack will not give you more CHannels to controll the lights. I use the above mentioned controller for weddig receptions. At big receptions, and when he customer wants to pay for it, I set up a 10 foot truss, and 2 T bars with various Fx Lights, and cans. Thank you !! Just what I was looking for - Ordered from Pssl . I also see your point on some lighting for the slower dances and most likely will stop at my local Guitar Center and pick something up . I'm not too familar with all the lighting "stuff" being mostly a KJ and Bar DJ I do not use lights often. Musically and sound wise I'm not worrired about DJ'ing but I'm figuring if I can add a little lighting to the Wedding I'm doing this week I might get some additional work from it . An American DJ Roto POd 250 is a nice inexpensive ligts for slow dances. $70 it looks like a mirror ball. I used to use one before I upgraded to DMX. |
