Hello,

I'm new to the  karoake scene and I have bought the rsq e 500. My concern is about key changer quality,  I mean depending the song and the change needed (more than 2 semi tone sometimes as I'm baryton) the quality is really bad, any idea ?

as I 'm using in my home studio some softwares (melodyne, ableton, melodyn) and hardware samplers with a better quality I was hoping that this kind of machine was as good or even better...

It depends on how high the original song was.  Sometimes it's really noticable and sometimes it's not.  Each one will sound different.  Some of the machines use to actually slow down the song to achieve the change.   I'm not sure if the digital key changers slow them.

Digital key changers don't speed/slow the song in any way.

The key changers built into players generally aren't that great - some are better than others & like you stated, some of the computer programs are getting alot better as well.  Usually, once you get more than 1 or 2 keys either way, the digitalness starts taking over, not to mention either the Satantic or Chipmunk backup singers.

Could you recommend a computer program you feel is decent ?  I'd love the option of transposing song pitch without having to adjust a pitch wheel on my Sony cassette deck... Only pitch wheel I currently have. It'd make playing along to certain albums more fun... (Especially the older horn songs in Bb and Eb). Not to mention a few of the guitarist's that tuned down 1/2 step.. Such as SRV...

does someone knows if standalone key changer are better than built in (in karaoke players ) ?

Sax & Dotty's has a key changer.  You can set the key for each song when you put it in the queue.  Or you can change it before or during a song.

Steven, if you are looking for THE best key changer to prepare an audio track, I would recommend the EAX Console that comes with any new SB Audigy2 family audio cards.  All others are fine for live (except one but won't mention).  You can easily go +/-2 with out a glitch, I mean, it's perfection!!

Again, depends on the player.  Most of the stand alones aren't much better than alot of the players out there & they cost $$.  Most key changers aren't good for more than 1 - 2 changes up/down.
