i recently subbed a couple songs on the singers forum, and think i may need a new mic for the pc to make my recordings sound better. What do you guys recommend? do they make adapters for a large mic like a shure 58 to fit the 1/8 in. opening on the back of my modem? thanks

Adapters...Rat SHack or local audio geek

i'll prob go to rat shack tomorrow and try to find an adapter. i just bought a pa system recently, it has a mixer with 2 mic inputs.  i think it has 1/4 in outputs. The pc modem has 1/8 in. inputs. Could i hook the mixer into the modem and just plug my regular mics with the mixer for recording on the pc?

I assume you mean SOUND CARD, not modem....Yes in thero you could plug your mixer into the sound cartd, but if you do BE VERY VERY CAREFUL.  The output of your mixer could be too much for your sound card to handle.  CHeck the spec on output of the mixer, and input of the sound card.

As opposed to plugging your mic directly to your soundcard, i'd say you'd get better results with a small mixer or usb audio interface, do a search on tascam's us-122..that's what I use, works great....as far as mics go, a dynamic mic is always good to have on hand, but a decent quality condensor will be much more detailed and fuller sounding, Audio-Technica's AT-2020 is a great condensor for the price, best of luck..

thanks i will check that out!  I only have the stock soundcard that came with my pc, so i guess i will be needing a new soundcard too.
