Post subject: | New KJ needs advice |
Hello, I am new to the KJ scene. I need some input on systems. I have 4 wireless microphones (pyle) and a JVC XL-MV303BK receiver. I want to buy some speakers but I want them to plug directly into the back of my JVC receiver. On the back of my JVC receiver is two RCA jacks. One white and One red. Currently I have it set up through my surround sound which works great, but I want to be able to take it to friends houses and just set the speakers up. Do I need an amplifier? I really just want to have the speakers and the receiver. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

You can buy powered speakers but without a mixer it will sound like crap. It doesn't sound like your a pro or anything but Pick up a Cheap Oddesey rack $90 to protect your player and a cheap Behringer mixer with effects $150 And @ American Audo Powered Speakers $200 each and you will be set. Or You can pick up a Frender Pasport starting at around $400 If you post a budget it will be alot easier to help you out. |

I agree with the Fender passport for your usage. I have a 150 watt Passport I use for small house party's as well as my monthly Nursing Home Gig's. one trip to and from my truck with everything. plenty of power. I currently Have Three systems for differnt kinds of gig's. Peavey X600G with Peavey PR12 speakers Aprox $1000.00 150 watt Fenedr Passport speakers included aprox $500.00 750 watt Bose L1 Personal Amplification System (tm) $2000.00 |

Yeah, sounds like your JVC is a home theater reciever, which just isn't gonna cut it for a KJ gig. The first time someone yells through the mic you are going to fry the thing. Home theater receivers are completely different animals from the PA systems used for professional DJ and KJ systems.... I agree...post your budget and you'll get suggestions for lots of great systems... BUT depending on how many disks you already have at your disposal, I would expect to pay at least about $800-1000 for your complete system and at least about $300-400 for discs. That would be bottom of the line stuff... But just think that a pro KJ should be able to easily make about $125 a show, so investing 2-3K into a business that is going to be profitable after only about 2-6 months is a really good investment by any standards!! |
